[Yandere] A Special Feature on Chilling Vocaloid Love Songs

A so-called “yandere” is someone whose feelings for the person they love can’t be contained, leading them to take actions that could be called excessive.

Some of you might find yourselves slipping into that kind of behavior toward your partner… right?

In this article, I’ve rounded up a selection of yandere songs from the Vocaloid world!

At first listen, they might seem scary, but that intensity is the flip side of love.

You could call it single-minded devotion… you could, but still, these tracks are the kind that make your heart race!

It’s a hugely popular genre in the Vocaloid scene—please enjoy these yandere songs to your heart’s content!

Love Love NightmareSomething P

Love Love Nightmare Something-P

There are yandere songs like this, too.

It’s a track by kiichi, also known as “something-P,” released in 2008.

From the intro it grabs you—dark four-on-the-floor dance music.

The vocal parts are sparse, but perhaps thanks to the sound arrangement that feels like a wall of sound closing in, it has a charm that keeps you listening.

You can really sense something-P’s excellent musical sensibilities.

It’s a highly addictive Vocaloid song—once you hear it, you’ll be hooked and want to put it on repeat forever.

Nchirogi JYO-U

This is a song about brainwashing someone you love.

It revels in negative emotions—enjoying the sight of the other person suffering so much they can hardly breathe, and mocking someone who can’t fight back—delivered in a rapid-fire melody that hammers the feelings home.

In the end, the singer even starts to find dealing with the brainwashed person a hassle.

If you fully embody the worst kind of human being while singing it, you’ll experience a pretty powerful catharsis.

Paraphilia Yobato-P

Do you know what the title “Paraphilia” means? When you look it up, it’ll take your breath away.

Among dark, twisted Vocaloid songs, this one is exceptionally warped.

Released in 2012, it’s a track that has been loved for a long time.

You’ll be surprised by the gap between Kagamine Rin’s cute voice and the deranged lyrics.

The title packs quite a punch, but it can still serve as an entry point to Vocaloid music.

Be sure to take your time and savor the lyrics and the song’s world!

defrailYugika

If you’re looking for a danceable track that portrays an adult world, “Defrail” is highly recommended.

Created in 2022 by the Vocaloid producer Yugika, known for posting many songs featuring Naruka Mikoto, it stands out with its passionate sound unfolding in a dark atmosphere.

It brilliantly depicts the experience of falling in love while carrying unresolved emotions.

Also note the aggressive synth tones that match Hatsune Miku’s mechanical vocals.

Be sure to check out this yandere-inspired song that evokes the image of a love burning hot.

distressYugika

The noisy vocal work is absolutely irresistible! This track by Vocaloid producer Yugika was released in 2022 and won 5th place in the Rookie category of VocaColle Autumn 2022.

The powerful beats combined with sharp piano and hard synths make for a really cool sound! The spoken-style vocal part at the end of the first verse is another highlight.

The sense of cohesion throughout the entire song is outstanding.

Be sure to pay attention to the lyrics as well, as they lay bare a heart chasing after someone else!

an inferior product; something poorly madehighball

It’s a yandere song that gives you chills from the very first moment it starts.

“Fudekimono,” produced by Vocaloid-P Hainomi, was released in August 2023 and was an entry for BokaColle 2023 Summer.

It’s suspicious yet energetic, and the rhythmic groove is seriously addictive.

Even just tracing each individual tone is fun—there’s something new to discover with every repeat.

Describing the “love” that has sprouted inside oneself as a “growth” is an incredibly sharp and stylish turn of phrase.

Drunk on Camellias. / Ru-Paa P feat. Kagamine Rin
Drunk on camellias. Ru-Paa P

A somewhat retro piece that sings, “I’m the only one who can love you.” It’s a track by Vocaloid producer Rupar-P, released in 2021.

The stylish sound, tinged with jazz elements, pairs beautifully with Kagamine Rin’s cool, understated vocals in this yandere number.

The song structure, which shifts into a rock-inspired section partway through, is striking.

The lyrics, expressing feelings for a precious person who has left, are frightening in their forceful tone, yet at the same time they carry a sense of sorrow.
