The artist who released the single “Easy On Me,” her first in six years since the 2015 album 25, is Grammy-winning singer Adele.

“Easy On Me” topped both the UK and US singles charts and set a new global record on Spotify for most streams in a single day.

The song’s lyrics center on Adele’s own divorce and serve as an apology to her son.

With Adele’s clear, pure vocals and beautiful piano, it’s a perfect track for the autumn season.

Won't Go Home Without YouMaroon 5

Since the extraordinary success of their 2002 debut album Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 has enjoyed popularity as one of the world’s top bands.

Among their dazzling discography filled with hits, Won’t Go Home Without You stands out as a masterpiece whose deeply plaintive melody resonates in the heart.

Adam Levine’s vocals, pouring out regret over a relationship that has ended and a yearning not to go home alone, are truly remarkable.

The band’s performance, too, is excellent—measured and restrained, yet expressive, with a keen sense of push and pull.

On a melancholy autumn afternoon, give this song a listen alongside your bittersweet memories!

Pale SeptemberFIONA APPLE

Literally translated, the title is “Pale September,” but the mature vocals—hard to believe they belong to an 18-year-old—and the piano imbued with a sense of jazz craft a song that skips past autumn and hints at winter.

Fiona Apple, who released her striking debut album Tidal in 1996, is a singer-songwriter with a singular talent born of the ’90s.

As of 2020, she’s known for being extremely sparing with releases—only four albums—but every piece of music she creates shines with a truly unique brilliance.

The track introduced here is one of the calmer, more unhurried songs on Tidal, making it an excellent soundtrack for an autumn night.

November RainGuns N’ Roses

Since their explosive debut in 1987, Guns N’ Roses have weathered many ups and downs yet still reign in the 2020s as one of the world’s most powerful rock bands.

Known for their flamboyant image and a string of wildly successful hard rock hits, their 1991 release November Rain is a nearly nine-minute epic—a dramatic rock ballad that has secured its place in rock history.

Its lavish music video, reportedly made with a total budget of one million dollars, also made waves at the time, like a mini movie.

The song reveals Axl Rose’s delicate side and undeniable talent as a songwriter, and Slash’s searing guitar solo is truly worthy of being called a masterpiece.

As the chill of November rain sets in, why not let yourself feel the raw emotion Axl poured into this song?

It's Too LateCarole King

Carole King, a leading female singer-songwriter, displayed her musical talent from a young age and debuted as a singer at 16.

Although she unfortunately didn’t find success at first, she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, produced many hit songs as a husband-and-wife songwriting team.

While Carole thrived behind the scenes, she later released her own solo work, achieving historic success with her second album, Tapestry.

From that album, I’d like to introduce the song “It’s Too Late.” This song, which depicts the end of a relationship, unfolds over minor chords that convey a wistful emotional arc, yet it somehow leaves a light, pleasant aftertaste—a masterpiece perfect for savoring on a long autumn night.

Autumn LeavesEric Clapton

It’s one of the most famous chanson standards and a classic widely covered by jazz musicians.

The piece originated in France, and the lyrics that were added later were, of course, in French.

When it reached America, English lyrics were written and the title became “Autumn Leaves.” In the jazz world, versions by Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans are especially well-known.

This time, I’d like to introduce Eric Clapton’s cover version—Clapton is a globally popular singer-songwriter and guitarist.

His take on “Les Feuilles Mortes,” modeled after the version sung by Yves Montand in the 1940s, perfectly captures the song’s wistful essence, making it a superb autumn tune.

Hasta MañanaABBA

A folk-tinged, slightly wistful pop song released by ABBA in 1974, with a title that means “see you tomorrow” in Spanish.

It appears on the group’s second album, Waterloo, and was later released as a single.

Unusually, it’s a track where Agnetha Fältskog handles the lead vocals on her own.

In Japan, the song was given the title Ochiba no Melody (“Melody of Fallen Leaves”), and while the track does convey an autumnal mood, the lyrics themselves don’t actually evoke the autumn season.

Perhaps the person who chose the Japanese title sensed fall from the opening line, which carries the nuance of “Where have spring and summer gone?” That said, it’s a song that’s upbeat yet a touch sentimental, and it makes for a pleasantly fitting listen as an autumn tune!
