Classic Western songs to listen to in July: Summer classics and popular tracks (71–80)
Lucid DreamsJuice WRLD

A track that samples the iconic song “Shape of My Heart,” which plays in the final scene of the 1994 film Léon starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman.
It’s a dramatic number by Juice WRLD, a Chicago-born rapper born in 1998, conveying a strong sense of resolve and a meaningful message.
The music video, which portrays a dreamlike world, is also a highlight.
Slow MotionJuvenile Ft. Soulja Slim

It’s a track from the 2004 album “Juve the Great” that reached No.
1 on the Billboard charts.
The title “Slow Motion” refers to the movement of a woman’s body, making it a sexy song.
Soulja Slim was killed in a shooting before the song was released.
At the time, he became the sixth artist to have a posthumous No.
1 hit.
Dejame AmorKAROL G, Maluma

Karol G is a Colombian female singer-songwriter.
Her collaboration with fellow Colombian male singer-songwriter Maluma is the song “Dejame Amor.” The track is sung in Spanish, Colombia’s official language, and even the sound of the words alone gives it a summery, passionate feel.
On top of that, the backing arrangement boldly features percussion, further heightening the hot summer vibe.
Incidentally, a unique point of this song is that its style changes dramatically partway through.
Why not listen with that in mind?

Good LifeKanye West ft. T-Pain

The third single from Kanye’s third studio album, Graduation, which won a Grammy.
The music video—featuring striking anime-inspired backgrounds—includes a 23-second intro not present on the album version.
Summer GirlsLFO

A 1999 single by the American pop group LFO.
It reached No.
3 on the Billboard charts.
It’s also famous for mentioning “New Kids On The Block” in the lyrics and for the phrase “I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch.”
Doin’ TimeLana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey, a popular singer-songwriter who describes her own musical style as “sadcore,” continues to work from a unique stance.
This track appears on her 2019 album Norman Fucking Rockwell! and drew attention from devoted music fans for being a cover of Sublime.
Taking a song by a band that epitomized the ’90s West Coast and skillfully blended genres like ska, reggae, and punk, Lana preserves the original flavor while giving it a trip-hop inflection, making it unmistakably her own.
Be sure to listen while imagining a distant Californian summer.
JuiceLizzo

Lizzo, a hugely popular female rapper and singer with an overwhelming presence and distinctive personality, never hesitates to share strong social messages.
As a rising pop icon, she released the hit track “Juice” in 2019, which I’d like to introduce.
Sprinkled with admiration for ’80s disco, its funky yet nostalgic pop vibe is pure fun to listen to, and it seems perfect for a July drive as summer really kicks in.
And of course, Lizzo’s signature positive lyrics are sure to lift your spirits!
