It’s a genre that has been gaining popularity in Japan as well, but there aren’t many rappers who perform love songs.
Strictly speaking, there are rappers who do love songs, but underground rappers tend not to.
Overseas, even rappers active in the underground usually release at least one love song.
Because of that, there’s quite a range when it comes to love songs in hip-hop.

Love songs in Western rap (21–30)
Truth HurtsLizzo
In addition to being a singer, actress, and rapper, Lizzo is a multi-artist who also plays the flute.
Her vocals, delivered from her powerful frame, are remarkably steady, and her rapping is equally commanding.
Among her love songs, the one I especially recommend is Truth Hurts.
You might expect a happy track from the music video, where she wears a wedding dress, but it actually depicts a woman confronting a man for cheating.

ROXANNEArizona Zervas
Arizona Zervas is a singer-songwriter from Maryland.
While his title is R&B singer-songwriter, his style incorporates many hip-hop elements, so I’m introducing him here as rap.
Among his love songs, the one I especially recommend is ROXANNE.
It blends trap and R&B, and portrays the feelings of a man who just got dumped.
It’s not a negative song at all; it conveys the determination to win her back.
If you’re a guy dealing with heartbreak, definitely give it a listen.
lutherKendrick Lamar
This track is memorable for the beautiful harmony woven by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, both from the United States.
Blending hip-hop and R&B, it explores themes of love and hope.
Its nostalgic melody, paired with monochromatic rap and luscious vocals, creates a deep sense of storytelling.
Released in November 2024, the song is included on the album GNX and reached No.
1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It also captivated 133.
5 million viewers during the Super Bowl halftime show in February 2025.
Gently addressing feelings for a loved one, the song exquisitely balances a tender, heartfelt atmosphere with an up-tempo sound.
I Need LoveLL Cool J
A romantic and melancholic rap ballad influenced by 1970s rhythm and blues.
Written by American rapper LL Cool J when he was 18, the track was released in 1987 and became a hit in the United States and various European countries.
Interlude (That’s Love)Chance The Rapper
As the title suggests, this track serves as a breather between songs on the album.
Chance the Rapper from Chicago is well known in his local community for philanthropy and for making large donations to schools, but unlike other rappers, he distances himself from materialism and, with this song, conveys the message that in the end, love conquers all.
Take CareYoung Thug
A track by American rapper Young Thug.
It samples James Brown’s 1965 track “I Got You (I Feel Good).” Released in 2017, it reached No.

A collaboration between American rapper Fabolous and singer-songwriter Ne-Yo.
It samples Sherine’s 2006 track “Al Sa’ban Aleh.” The music video features appearances by rapper Red Cafe and football player Dwight Freeney.
