A love song in Western rap
Hip-hop, the most popular genre in contemporary music.
It’s a genre that has been gaining popularity in Japan as well, but there aren’t many rappers who perform love songs.
Strictly speaking, there are rappers who do love songs, but underground rappers tend not to.
Overseas, even rappers active in the underground usually release at least one love song.
Because of that, there’s quite a range when it comes to love songs in hip-hop.
This time, we’ve picked out some hip-hop love songs from Western music.

Love songs in Western rap (11–20)
Hate It Or Love ItThe Game Ft. 50 Cent

A collaboration between American rappers The Game and 50 Cent.
It was inspired by Eric B.
& Rakim’s 1987 track “My Melody.” The song became a hit worldwide, earned Gold certification in the United States, and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Power tripJ. Cole

J.
Cole is one of the most handsome men in the rap game, and he says this track isn’t just about love for a woman—it’s also a love song to hip-hop.
He’s likening hip-hop to a woman.
Miguel’s guest vocals add a refreshing, smooth clarity that serves as a great finishing touch.
Need MeJ.I.

J.
I Prince of New York, a rapper gaining popularity in New York—better known simply as J.
I.
He emerged on the scene in the late 2010s and continues to thrive today.
Among his love songs, one I especially recommend is Need Me.
Released in 2019, when his career was shining the brightest, it’s a classic that perfectly matches his style and persona with a sleek, stylish sound.
FallingTrevor Daniel

Trevor Daniel is an artist who has gained popularity with a musical style that mixes pop music and R&B, adding elements of hip-hop.
He’s not hip-hop enough to be called a rapper, but not pop enough to be simply labeled pop, which is why we picked him this time.
His love song “Falling” showcases a stylish melody perfectly matched with lyrics that poignantly depict a man’s aching feelings as he continues to pursue a woman—a true masterpiece.
DevastatedJoey Bada$$

Joey Bada$$, a rapper from Brooklyn, first gained popularity through YouTube in 2010, and even at the time of his debut he made waves with a fully formed style.
Now in his late twenties, he continues to attract massive props and a strong following.
Among his love songs, the one I especially recommend is Devastated.
Its lyrics paint vivid scenes, and from those scenes alone you can grasp the romantic dynamics of the characters—a work that showcases his lyrical side.
Love Can Be…Vince Staples

As you might guess from the hard beat with a house-music vibe, it’s a little different from the typical sweet love song.
The lyrics take a girl’s point of view with lines like “What a letdown,” and that cool, dismissive tone is oddly addictive.
Love songs in Western rap (21–30)
123 feat. Blac YoungstaMoneybagg Yo

Moneybagg Yo, a rapper representing the state of Tennessee.
His style is classic trap music, and every track has outstanding consistency.
He has a strong “thug” image, but he’s actually released love songs as well.
Among his love songs, the one I especially recommend is “123 feat.
Blac Youngsta.” As you can tell from the track and the flow, it portrays a hard-edged man’s approach to love.
It’s a love song that even fans of more masculine tracks can enjoy, so definitely give it a listen.
