One song I especially want tired women to listen to is Carole King’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” As one of America’s quintessential singer-songwriters, her voice has a mysterious power that reaches straight into the listener’s heart.

The lyrics of “A Natural Woman,” included on her landmark 1971 album Tapestry, teach us that it’s enough to be a woman in your natural, authentic self.

Aretha Franklin, known as the Queen of Soul, also covered the song, and her version is a soulful performance overflowing with gospel feeling.

When you’re tired, you want to be soothed by gentle sounds, right? A perfect song for those moments is Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 single “Dreams.” It’s a track from their shift from blues rock to a softer rock style, and it’s also the band’s only song to reach No.

1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Stevie Nicks’s vocals, together with the band’s gentle sound, make you feel calm as you listen.

Don’t Know WhyNorah Jones

Norah Jones’s “Don’t Know Why” is a song whose acoustic, jazzy sound is soothing.

Released as a single in 2002, it’s a classic that won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2003 Grammy Awards.

Norah’s calm, smoky vocals and the crystal-clear piano tones are captivating.

It’s the perfect track to listen to on a tired night after you get home, with a glass of whiskey or wine in hand.

One song whose intro piano phrase and cheerful sound soothe the heart is The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer.” Released as a single in 1967, it’s a classic that spent four weeks at number one in the U.

In Japan, Kiyoshiro Imawano’s band The Timers covered it in Japanese, and many people have likely heard it since it was also used in a Seven-Eleven commercial.

The lyrics, which depict the life of a dreamy young man and a popular woman, are also quite memorable.

I Just Called To Say I Love YouStevie Wonder

Speaking of Stevie Wonder’s classic from 1984, it’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You.” It was used on the soundtrack for the film The Woman in Red and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

It also became a huge hit, reaching number one on three Billboard charts: the Hot 100, R&B, and Adult Contemporary.

The lyrics, where he calls to say “I love you” even when it’s not a special day, are charming and soothing.

PatienceGuns N’ Roses

Having achieved their commercial peak with Appetite for Destruction, they quickly recorded and developed this song using the acoustic instruments available in the studio, with Axl’s whistling in the intro leaving a particularly strong impression.

The mini-album G N’ R Lies was released by combining three tracks recorded at that same session with four tracks that had previously been recorded for a self-produced release.

Whenever Wherever WhateverMaxwell

Maxwell is one of the singer-songwriters who represent neo-soul, a subgenre of contemporary R&B that emerged in the 1990s.

Although he doesn’t release music frequently, every work he puts out is of overwhelming quality, and he consistently delivers exquisitely soulful vocals and songs—he’s a rare, extraordinary artist.

Maxwell has released many classic tracks, but this time I’d like to introduce the gem “Whenever, Wherever, Whatever,” a masterpiece where the warm, gentle resonance of acoustic guitar and Maxwell’s superb vocals create the perfect chemistry.

It first appeared on his landmark 1996 debut album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite, and was also included on his 1997 live EP MTV Unplugged, from which it was released as a single.

It’s a jewel of a ballad that I highly recommend not only to fans of ’90s neo-soul but to anyone who appreciates great music.
