Deep house masterpieces: Recommended popular tracks (31–40)
Your LoveFrankie Knuckles, Jamie Principle

With its striking arpeggiated intro, this phrase continues to be sampled across countless tracks.
A masterpiece whose acclaim speaks for itself.
This early work by the late father of house music, Frankie Knuckles, is also his most popular track.
Vocals by Jamie Principle give it a mysterious mood.
The two of them are considered part of the first generation of house music and helped shape its very origins.
Lovelee DaeBlaze

Blaze was formed in New Jersey in the 1980s by Josh Milan and Kevin Hedge.
Both were DJs and devoted clubbers who frequented the legendary Paradise Garage, and they went on to thrive as producers as well.
This track, among their works, is a deep house piece that particularly evokes a classic Garage background; its gently melancholic mood and vocals are outstanding.
DanceEarth People

This is another house classic that remains highly popular today.
Compared to others, it’s so catchy that I hesitated to classify it within the deep house genre.
Many of its brilliantly tasteful phrases were crafted using samplers and produced by Joseph Longo, who was working at a record shop at the time.
It’s still played in clubs by DJs across generations and has been reissued many times.
Burning BrightMaya Jane Coles feat. Kim Ann Foxman

Here’s a masterpiece of house music from 2010 onward.
It’s the debut and biggest hit by Maya Jane Coles, who has both Japanese and British heritage—her grandmother lived in Osaka and she herself lived there for a short time.
At the time, there weren’t many people connecting gothic fashion with house music, so it made a strong impression.
She’s said to have been steeped in dance music, going to London clubs from around the age of 17.
From 2012 onward, she played as a top DJ at numerous clubs and festivals.
I’ll Be Your FriendRobert Owens

Fingers Inc.
, the legendary Chicago house project that produced numerous masterpieces.
Along with Larry Heard and Ron Wilson, they helped pioneer the history of house music.
This track is one of Robert Owens’ most popular.
It’s an anthem you’re guaranteed to hear at least once at any festival dedicated to house music.
Despite its highly spiritual sound, the way it simply and passionately repeats “I’ll be your friend” is, in its own way, spiritual all over again.
Deep house masterpieces. Recommended popular tracks (41–50)
Flame (Borderline Insanity Dub)Crustation

This track is a classic deep house remix by Christation, a trip-hop trio from Bristol, England, released in 1997.
It features boldly cut-up vocals and a thick, simple bassline.
The minimal progression and airy, floating FX give it an addictive flavor.
It’s a build-up oriented deep house tune that would likely be played relatively early in a club set.
Rabbit HoleJosh Butler

Released in 2018, this was one of the most popular floor hits in deep house.
The vivid piano rolls and soft synth stabs feel great.
I think its simple arrangement was also a key to its functionality.
Since it doesn’t build up dramatically from the break to the drop, it’s a track that can be adapted to a variety of moods.
