In Japan, only songs that are global hits tend to make it to the forefront, so I think few people are familiar with Danish music.
In fact, Denmark is known worldwide as a country where dream pop and synth-pop have developed significantly.
This time, I’ve picked out some Danish bands.
The first half features classic veteran bands, while the second half introduces bands that color today’s scene.

Efterklang is a four-piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark, formed in 2000.
In Danish, “Efterklang” means memory or influence.
They invite many musicians to participate in their recordings and have produced numerous music videos with a variety of filmmakers.
The music video for Mirador was directed by Hvass & Hannibal & UFEX, with animation created by Jens Christian Høgni Larsen and Nan Na Hvass.
Concentrate! feat. Simon KvammFiller

Filur is a Danish duo band formed in 1999, consisting of producer Tomas Barfod and lead vocalist Kasper Bjørke.
They released four albums—Exciting Comfort in 2001, Deeply Superficial in 2002, Into the Wasteland in 2006, and Faces in 2011—and five singles: I Want You, It’s Alright, and Shame in 2001, The Con in 2006, and Concentrate! in 2011.
They toured extensively in the United States, Europe, and Japan, and released a Japan-only album titled Peace in 2003.
The band has won DMA awards for Best Producers and Best Dance Album.

Northern Portrait is an indie pop band formed in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2007.
In 2008, they released the EP The Fallen Aristocracy and shared their music online, which led to an offer from Matinée Recordings, a label based in California, USA.
They went on to release the EP Napoleon Sweetheart and made their album debut in 2010 with Criminal Art Lovers.
The album cover features a photograph of Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye, reflecting the fact that one of the members is an architect.
Happy Nice Day is a track included on the EP Pretty Decent Swimmers.
All That I HaveDúné

Dúné is a three-piece electronic rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Their sound is characterized by a blend of UK and US electronic music, elements of 1980s pop, and 1970s post-punk, complemented by a distinctive, modern Scandinavian touch.
They are also known for their unique and energetic live performances.
They have released four studio albums and have won awards such as the Danish Music Awards, the P3 Gold Prize, and the European Border Breakers Award.
In 2007, their track A Blast Beat was featured on the Need for Speed: ProStreet soundtrack.
All That I Have is the second single from the album Wild Hearts.
Hey ,GirlFigurines

Figurines is an indie rock band from Denmark formed in the mid-1990s.
They released their first EP, The Detour, in 2001, and the album Shake a Mountain in 2004.
Their work was released by Denmark’s Morningside Records and the German label Pop-U-Loud in 2005, and by the American label The Control Group in 2006.
After being nominated for a Canadian Music Week Indie Award, the band embarked on a North American tour and performed at events such as the Indies ceremony, SXSW, and on KEXP.
In 2010, they released their fourth album, Figurines.
“Hey, Girl” is a track released as a single from their 2007 album When the Deer Wore Blue.
FLYINGNice Little Penguins

Nice Little Penguins is a pop band formed in 1983 around the town of Vejle, Denmark.
It is a three-piece band consisting of brothers Carsten Kolster and Michael Kolster, along with their friend Bo Feierskov.
They are known for the song Flying, which features the ukulele, a Hawaiian instrument, and is included on their 1994 album of the same name, Flying.
Both the music video and the track were re-recorded and edited for the 20th anniversary.
Fly On The Wings Of LoveOlsen Brothers

The Olsen Brothers are a brother duo from Denmark.
They formed in 1965 as The Kids, released their debut single in 1967, and put out their debut album, Olsen, in 1972.
In 2000, they won the Danish Melodi Grand Prix singing Fly on the Wings of Love, and went on to claim their second Eurovision Song Contest victory—37 years after their first—at the 45th contest held in Stockholm.
