Recommended bands from Denmark. Popular bands from overseas.

Denmark, a major tourist destination located in Northern Europe.

In Japan, only songs that are global hits tend to make it to the forefront, so I think few people are familiar with Danish music.

In fact, Denmark is known worldwide as a country where dream pop and synth-pop have developed significantly.

This time, I’ve picked out some Danish bands.

The first half features classic veteran bands, while the second half introduces bands that color today’s scene.

Like KnivesThe Fashion

The Fashion is a four-piece indie rock/mixture pop band from Copenhagen, Denmark.

They released their debut album, Rock Rock Kiss Kiss Combo, in 2003, garnered attention on Danish radio, were named MTV’s Fresh Pick of the Week, and received praise from critics such as Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, making their MTV debut in 2007.

In 2008, they premiered the lead track Solo Impala (Take the Money and Run) at SXSW and released a preview EP via iTunes; their second album, The Fashion, was released by Epic Records in 2007.

In 2009, their single Like Knives appeared in Electronic Arts’ racing video game Need for Speed: Undercover as well as Madden NFL 2009.

Their signature sound blends elements of ’80s new wave, hip-hop, disco, and dancehall.

The band disbanded in 2011.

The Rumor Said Fire is a four-piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark, formed in 2008 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Jesper Lidang.

Their music is characterized by folk and indie elements.

In 2009, they released their debut EP, The Life and Death of a Male Body, from which Evil Son and The Balcony were released as singles.

In 2010, they released the studio album The Arrogant, with Sentimentally Falling and Passion as singles.

Their second album, Dead Ends, was released in 2012.

Toy-Box is a Danish pop group consisting of a male-female duo.

They debuted in 1998 with “Tarzan and Jane,” gaining popularity in their home country.

They have released eight singles and two albums.

After the group disbanded, Amir El-Faraki became a dance instructor and music video choreographer, while Anila Mirza pursued a solo career under the name Aneela.

VETO is an indie rock band from Aarhus, Denmark, formed in 2004.

They released their first EP, I Will Not Listen, in 2005, and their debut album, There’s A Beat in All Machines, in 2006 through the Danish hip-hop label Tabu Records/Playground.

In 2007, they won Best Danish Music Video and Best New Act at the Danish Music Awards.

Their second album, Crushing Digits, was released in 2008 by Reset08/Sony BMG, with Built to Fail issued as a single, and in 2009 they were named Denmark Band of the Year at the Danish Music Awards.

In 2011, they released their third album, Everything Is Amplified, via RCA/Sony Music Entertainment Denmark, with This Is Not released as a single.

Their fourth album, Point Break, came out in 2013 on Sony Music.

Alphabeat is a six-piece pop band from Denmark, known for melodic 1980s-style pop and distinctive male–female harmonies.

In 2007, their single “Fascination” was a major hit in Denmark, and their debut album, Alphabeat, reached No.

2 on the Danish album chart.

They signed with EMI’s Charisma Records in the UK, earned a Gold certification there in 2008 with significant success, and won the EBBA (European Border Breakers Award) in 2009.

Their second album followed—alongside Popjustice coverage—and in 2010 they released their second album The Beat Is.

, including the second single “Hole in My Heart.” In 2012, their third album, Express Non-Stop, was released, with “Vacation” and “Love Sea” issued as digital-download singles.

The band went on hiatus in 2013 to focus on side projects.

Blue Foundation is an indietronica/urban band from Copenhagen, Denmark, formed in 2000.

They won a Danish Award in 2006; their track “Sweep” was selected for the Miami Vice film soundtrack, and “Eyes On Fire” was featured on the soundtrack of Twilight.

In 2006, they released the album Solid Origami exclusively in Japan.

Indians – Oblivion | The Fault In Our Stars OST

Indians is a project by Copenhagen-based singer-songwriter and musician Søren Løkke Juul, using the moniker Indians.

Active since 2003, he has even been referred to as the Danish Bon Iver.

In 2012, he self-released his debut single I Am Haunted on 7-inch, and in 2013 he released his first album, Somewhere Else, on the UK indie label 4AD.

The song Oblivion was featured on the soundtrack of the 2014 American film The Fault in Our Stars.
