Songs to Help Women Sing Better: Practice Tracks for Improving at Karaoke

Conditions for becoming a better singer.

Of course, acquiring correct and efficient vocal production is the most important point, but if you can’t apply the fundamentals you’ve learned to actual songs, it won’t amount to much.

To build that kind of “real-world ability,” it’s crucial to choose appropriate practice songs and, by singing them, develop the expressive skills needed to perform actual pieces.

In this article, I’ve selected songs that seem optimal for the goal of “getting better at singing.”

Even when someone says, “I want to become a better singer,” everyone’s current level varies, so I’ve chosen a wide range—from beginner-friendly songs to more difficult ones.

Some of the individual song introduction articles also include brief tips on how to sing them, so please use those as references and do your best to further improve your skills with the help of this article.

That said, the most important thing is to pick songs you love—the ones that make you think, “I want to sing this!” or “I want to be able to sing this!”—and enjoy singing them.

[For Women] Songs to Improve Your Singing: Practice Tracks for Getting Better at Karaoke (111–120)

ResonantiaAimer

Aimer 「Resonantia」 MUSIC VIDEO
ResonantiaAimer

The lead track from Aimer’s July 2023 album “Open α Door.” It’s an uptempo song brimming with drive, featuring standout performances by a jazzy piano and brass section.

Even against such a powerful backing track, Aimer’s vocal—emotional and soulful yet never overbearing, with a cool restraint—is truly remarkable.

As mentioned, the song is uptempo and very propulsive, but I feel it’s important to sing with a slightly laid-back feel against the beat.

Try keeping that in mind when you sing it.

LIES GOES ONMay’n

Not only as a singer, but also as a voice actor and musical theater actress, May’n has been remarkably active.

The song featured here, “LIES GOES ON,” was released in August 2023 as her 21st single.

Even in this up-tempo track, you can fully enjoy her powerful and beautifully resonant high-tone voice.

Simply analyzing how she switches between various high registers throughout different sections of the song offers plenty to learn, making it a track I especially recommend that aspiring female singers give a listen to at least once.

Because you are hereUru

[Official] Uru “Because You Are Here” — Theme Song for TBS Sunday Theater ‘Ship of Theseus’
Uru because you are here

This is a digital-only single by Uru, released in February 2020.

It was reportedly written as the theme song for TBS’s Sunday drama “Ship of Theseus.” It’s a beautiful ballad featuring an acoustic piano and a striking symphonic arrangement.

While there aren’t many conspicuous falsetto passages in this track, if you listen closely to Uru’s vocals in the high notes, such as in the chorus, you’ll understand how crucial the subtle switching and nuanced use of different vocal registers are to expressive singing.

If you master this song for karaoke, you’ll surely gain a great deal.

Guidelines Uru

This is Uru’s fifth digital-only single, released in May 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Monday 9 p.

drama “Kazama Kimichika: Kyōjō 0.” Built on a symphonic backing track, it’s a beautiful ballad that lets you fully savor Uru’s very gentle yet powerful high-toned vocals.

Reproducing Uru’s singing in this track at karaoke is quite challenging for most people; it takes more than just being good at high notes.

Still, if you’re confident in your singing, it’s definitely a song worth attempting! Listen closely to the original for reference, and aim for a performance that is both strong and soft, maintaining clean, controlled tone even in the high passages.

Anytime Anywheremilet

milet “Anytime Anywhere” MUSIC VIDEO (TV anime “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” ending theme)
Anytime Anywheremilet

A digital-only single by milet, released in September 2023.

It was selected as the ending theme for the Nippon TV anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

This medium-tempo song makes extensive use of long tones in the vocal melody, and especially in the sections sung in falsetto—such as the chorus—you can enjoy milet’s highly captivating vibrato.

It’s one of the best tracks to use as a reference for vibrato on long falsetto notes, so be sure to listen closely to the original and try singing it yourself.

A Flower Blooming in the Rubble - Yoshi*No Nanjo (Yoshino Nanjo)

Yoshino Nanjo is active across a wide range of fields: voice actor, actress, singer, and vocalist in a music unit.

The song we’re introducing here, “A Flower Blooming in the Rubble,” was produced as the ending theme for the PC game Grisaia: Chronos Rebellion, and as expected from a professional who works with “the voice,” she delivers an irresistibly appealing and consistently steady vocal performance throughout the entire track.

That stable tone and precise pitch are truly noteworthy.

Starry NightYuka

Yuka – Starry Night (Official Music Video)
Hoshizukiyo by Kaoru

This is Yuka’s sixth digital single, released in February 2023.

Although Yuka’s natural speaking voice is somewhat low, in Hoshizukiyo she skillfully uses mixed voice—especially in the high notes of the chorus—to beautifully convey the atmosphere of this tender ballad.

With a typical falsetto, you’d use head voice that resonates clearly in the nasal cavity, but for mixed voice, you can keep the falsetto mechanism and practice singing by aiming the resonance as broadly as possible toward the entire soft palate at the back of your mouth.

You’ll surely be able to produce soft yet clear high notes like Yuka!
