[High-pitched warning!] Songs with high notes that are hard to sing
The Japanese music scene is known for having a relatively low emphasis on groove, but an unusually large number of high-pitched songs.
In particular, since Japan has finally started earnestly incorporating overseas music in recent years, the overall level of songs has risen dramatically.
With that in mind, this time we’ve picked out Japanese songs that are on the higher side.
From songs with a wide vocal range, to tracks that have pinpoint high parts, to songs that stay in the high register throughout, we selected from a broad set of perspectives—so be sure to find the tracks that suit you!

[High-pitch warning!] Difficult high-range songs to sing (71–80)
New Genesis (Uta from ONE PIECE FILM RED)Ado

This is Ado’s 10th single overall, released in June 2022.
It was chosen as the theme song for the animated film ONE PIECE FILM RED, with lyrics and composition by Yasutaka Nakata.
The song opens with Ado’s stunning high-tone a cappella, hinting right away that it will be a formidable challenge to sing at karaoke.
As expected, the track unfolds in a way that requires skillful switching of vocal registers throughout the melody.
To perform this song well at karaoke, mastering these vocal transitions is essential.
Although it’s slightly uptempo, be careful not to let your vocal rhythm rush ahead when you sing.
and I love youMr.Children

The piece “and I love you” is striking for its breezy instrumentation and sultry vocals.
The trickiest part is, without a doubt, the falsetto in the chorus.
Because the pitch moves up and down quite dramatically, there’s a real risk of going off-pitch in the falsetto sections.
In the final chorus, consecutive shouts appear, and since many of them rely on a shout + mixed voice technique, you’ll need not just height but also fullness in the high notes.
The lowest note is mid2 A, so there’s room to lower the key, but the highest note is hi D.
Make sure to assess your own vocal timbre and range carefully, and set the key to what suits you best.
For Whom the Alchemist ExistsMr.Children

As a work with a strong message, “Tagatame” enjoys solid support from hardcore fans.
Its vocal range is quite wide, spanning mid1C to hiB, and because the lowest note is mid1C, there isn’t much room to lower the key.
It also features a hi A# shout, so a powerful high-register delivery is required.
In addition, the lyrics are emotional, so a vocally expressive performance is needed; even though there’s no falsetto, overall it can be considered a very challenging piece.
The summer you gave meLeo Ieiri

This is singer-songwriter Leo Ieiri’s 10th single, released in August 2015.
It also served as the theme song for the Monday 9 p.
m.
drama “Koinaka.” Ieiri has a very pleasant voice with rich high overtones, and if you’re a woman with a relatively high natural speaking voice, you may find it easier to sing in a similar style.
The key point is how softly you can handle the parts in the chorus that switch to falsetto.
When singing this song at karaoke, try to be careful not to let the high notes become too piercing or harsh.
Shunkan SentimentalSCANDAL

This is the fifth single by the Japanese girls’ rock band SCANDAL, released in February 2010.
Because vocalist HARUNA’s tone can sound slightly husky, you might not associate SCANDAL with a high‑tone vocal image, but listen closely and you’ll find that’s not the case at all! She skillfully switches between a very bright, punchy high register and a gentle falsetto, handling a high‑key song with impressive finesse.
If you’re a woman who’s good at singing high notes, definitely give it a try at karaoke!
Northern CrossMay’n

This is a song by Sheryl, the diva from the anime Macross Frontier.
It’s a great track where a high-quality melody—hard to believe it’s from an anime song—and an overwhelming vocal performance are perfectly matched.
The tempo is fast and the key is high, so it’s difficult to sing unless you have a high voice.
Hoshimachi SuiseiBibbideba

Suisei Hoshimachi, a VTuber from hololive, is one of the most successful artists not only in hololive but in the entire VTuber scene.
Among her songs, Bibideba stands out for its striking high notes.
While it doesn’t feature extremely high sections, it uses falsetto at the beginning and end of the chorus, making it much more challenging than it sounds at first listen.
To sing it well, adjust the key so that the falsetto parts—not the chest voice sections—come out comfortably.
