Farewell Songs: Karaoke tunes to sing at a farewell party. Goodbye songs.

I think it’s common to hold farewell parties at life’s turning points—like graduation, job transfers, or retirement.

And at those farewell parties, it’s also pretty common to go to karaoke, right?

So in this article, I’ve put together a selection of songs that are perfect for farewells—songs you’ll want to sing at a send-off and songs that convey your feelings to someone setting off on a new journey.

I’ll be introducing farewell songs that carry messages of gratitude for everything up to now, as well as the feeling that you’ll keep cheering them on even after you part ways.

If you dedicate the songs I’m about to introduce along with your own heartfelt sentiments, I’m sure they’ll make a wonderful gift.

[Farewell Songs] Karaoke songs to sing at a farewell party. Goodbye tracks (31–40)

CheersTsuyoshi Nagabuchi

I bet many of you sang this at your graduation ceremony back in the day.

It’s a beautiful song that makes you cry from the intro alone and conveys unconditional love.

Although it’s about farewells in our youth, it’s also perfectly suitable to sing for seniors, teachers, or a mentor who took care of you.

And you don’t have to imitate Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi’s singing style—just sing it in your own way!

Goodbye, baby.Fujii Kaze

Goodbye, baby — Fujii Kaze

A singer-songwriter who’s drawing attention for modern tracks born from shape-shifting lyrics that switch between Okayama dialect and standard Japanese, backed by a vast musical background: Fujii Kaze.

This song, included on his first album “HELP EVER HURT NEVER,” excels in blending a melody reminiscent of classic kayōkyoku with contemporary arrangements.

By using the Okayama dialect, the lyrics feel more familiar, and the unadorned words to a lover with whom one has decided to part conjure up vivid, real scenes.

It’s a song that evokes the feeling of parting with someone dear, and singing it at karaoke can help you sort out your emotions.

SaraiYuzo Kayama & Shinji Tanimura

“Sarayi” is a song released in 1992, famous as the theme song for Nippon TV’s “24-Hour Television.” It’s a quintessential departure song that almost everyone in the country has likely heard.

It’s a number I’d love for you to send as a heartfelt cheer at a farewell party.

Memories Are Full H₂O

It’s a monumental kayōkyoku that will likely continue to be sung for decades to come.

With a heart full of memories, a girl grows into adulthood, and the lyrics carefully scoop up that fragile, glass-like delicacy.

It’s a song I’d like to dedicate to everyone setting off on a new journey with their memories.

This song creates a time that everyone can share—from young people hearing it for the first time to adults who remember when it first came out.

Since it’s well-known among people in their 50s and older, it’s a great recommendation as a song for a retiring boss.

SolaninASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION

It also became the theme song for the film Solanin.

The song plays a significant role in the movie, where the lovers sing their hearts out, reaffirming their feelings and connecting with each other.

The lyrics may seem rather blunt—wanting to go back to that day but knowing you can’t, saying goodbye because there’s no other choice—but the more I listen, the more I feel there’s something deeper there.

If tearful goodbyes make you shy, this is the song for you!

Beyond the GoodbyeMomoe Yamaguchi

Momoe Yamaguchi, who was active as a singer and idol.

The last single she released before announcing her retirement was “Beyond the Goodbye.” It expresses gratitude to the fans who supported her singing career and sings of parting.

While a bit melancholic, the lyrics carry a certain strength—pay attention to that.

It’s also a famous song everyone knows, making it perfect to sing at a farewell party with attendees from various generations.

And since it’s slow-tempo, it seems well-suited for a group chorus as well.

Even as time passes, there are things that never fade and never change—people call them “proof.” Words like friendship and bonds resonate in the heart just the same.

This is a song about dear friends you think of even when far apart, and about mentors you’re grateful to.

Tears don’t suit this song.

It’s a piece to sing with your chest held high and a sincere expression—different from your usual joking self—before the friends you normally fool around with.
