Farewell Songs: Karaoke tunes to sing at a farewell party. Goodbye songs.

I think it’s common to hold farewell parties at life’s turning points—like graduation, job transfers, or retirement.

And at those farewell parties, it’s also pretty common to go to karaoke, right?

So in this article, I’ve put together a selection of songs that are perfect for farewells—songs you’ll want to sing at a send-off and songs that convey your feelings to someone setting off on a new journey.

I’ll be introducing farewell songs that carry messages of gratitude for everything up to now, as well as the feeling that you’ll keep cheering them on even after you part ways.

If you dedicate the songs I’m about to introduce along with your own heartfelt sentiments, I’m sure they’ll make a wonderful gift.

You know “Ai wo Komete Hanataba wo,” right? It’s one of Superfly’s signature songs and consistently ranks high on karaoke popularity charts.

The lyrics express gratitude to a loved one by likening it to a bouquet of flowers.

At farewell parties, there are often moments when people actually present a bouquet, so singing this song then could be a nice touch.

However, the melody spans a wide range, so it’s fairly difficult.

If you find some notes hard to hit, try adjusting the key.

Spring Comes to UsUNISON SQUARE GARDEN

Spring has come and we are UNISON SQUARE GARDEN

It was also used as the theme song for the TV anime March Comes in Like a Lion.

The anime is a moving story about a boy who grows through shogi.

The lyrics, which say that we grow each time we experience spring, are endlessly bright and positive.

If a farewell gathering starts to feel gloomy, try livening things up by singing this song.

It’s a slightly up-tempo track, so don’t let the speed beat you—give it your all!

I did a self-cover of Sakura (Dokusho), which was released in 2003.

There are various arrangements, and each one reflects Naotaro Moriyama as he was in that particular era.

The lyrics depict a quintessential send-off song about departures and farewells.

If you sing it with all your heart, it feels like everything will get through to the listener.

If you’re ever unsure, go with this one!

Go for it!!Ulfuls

When it comes to farewell party karaoke, people tend to go for ballads and make the mood sentimental, don’t they? That’s why I’d like to recommend “Guts da ze!” as a song that will instantly liven up the room.

This track is known for its fun chorus and pop sound.

No wonder—apparently Tortoise Matsumoto from Ulfuls composed it with disco dance numbers in mind.

When you sing it at karaoke, it’s a great idea to ask your friends or coworkers to handle the chorus.

Adding tambourine or other small percussion also fits perfectly.

Sangatsu no Phantasia is a musical collective centered around vocalist Mia, bringing together multiple creators such as illustrators and composers.

The “Phantasia” in their artist name comes from Latin and means “imagination.” For anyone who hasn’t heard it yet, their song “Samedenaide, Seishun” (“Don’t Wake Up, Youth”) is an absolute must-listen.

As the title suggests, the song is bright and positive, expressing the wish to keep a youthful spirit even when you’re older and can no longer call it your youth.

If you want to liven up a farewell party that tends to get a bit somber, this is the track for you! It might be fun to learn the chorus and sing it together, too!

Known by the nickname Saku-chan and also active as an actress, singer Sakurako Ohara’s sixth single.

Chosen as the theme song for the film “Let’s Go, Jets! From Small Town Girls to U.

S.

Champions?!,” its lyrics depict spring scenery and memories with friends, making it a graduation song that evokes parting.

Her clear, transparent vocals layered over the expansive arrangement further highlight the poignancy of the words.

With a message that some things change over time while others remain the same, it’s a spring song that reaffirms friendship—perfect to dedicate at karaoke to friends who are going their separate ways.

Piano rock band, Ivy to Color.

The song that catapulted their name into the spotlight is “Even If We Forget Spring.” It portrays a man who, while holding back his loneliness, sends off someone dear to him with a bright smile.

The inner turmoil is depicted so vividly that anyone going through something similar will surely relate.

Since the lyrics also vow to meet again, it doesn’t get overly somber—that’s a nice touch.

And although it’s sung by a man, the high register makes it easy for women to sing as well.
