Aim for a high score! Karaoke songs for men to achieve top scores

If you’re simply aiming for a high score at karaoke, the key points for song selection will naturally be to choose songs with “easy-to-sing melodies,” “easy-to-understand lyrics,” and “clear, straightforward rhythms.”

That being the case, your picks will tend to come from the ’90s and earlier—so-called Showa-era and early Heisei kayōkyoku, new music, and J-pop.

Many recent songs have complex melodies and rhythms, and plenty of people think “This is hard!” after just one listen.

In this article, aimed at men who want to score high at karaoke, I’ve also proactively selected relatively singable tracks even from among more recent songs.

Compared to older hits, these are a bit more challenging to sing, but each song’s write-up includes tips and points to watch for to help you boost your score, so please use this as a guide and give them a try!

It feels great when you nail a high score!

Happy Endingback number

back number – Happy End (full)
Happy End back number

This is back number’s 16th single, released in November 2016.

It was also used as the theme song for the film “My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday.” The strings arrangement is striking, and the song is crafted into a very beautiful yet passionate ballad.

In terms of vocal melody, I don’t think it’s particularly difficult to sing; however, the breath points (where to take breaths) in the chorus might be a bit tricky, so be sure to listen closely to the original and study it.

Also, toward the end of the chorus, there are spots where you need to switch between chest voice and falsetto, so practice to make that transition smooth.

If you’re not confident, it might be a good idea to lower the key when singing at karaoke.

astronomical observationBUMP OF CHICKEN

This is BUMP OF CHICKEN’s third single, released on March 14, 2001.

It was used as an insert song for the Kansai TV/Fuji TV drama “Tentaikansoku” (Stargazing), and it’s said that the drama itself was created inspired by this track.

It’s an upbeat, brisk rock song with a vocal melody that doesn’t require a particularly wide range, and the tune is very easy to remember and hum along to.

It’s a great choice when you want to aim for a high score at karaoke.

Just be careful not to fall behind the tempo when you sing!

It’s a lively, easy-to-sing song! The tempo isn’t slow, but the rhythm is simple and easy to catch.

The chorus has some higher parts, so be mindful of your pitch there to avoid losing points.

Try incorporating slides and falls effectively.

Ms. Hanako on a high pedestalback number

Back Number – Hanako-san on a High Pedestal
Hanako, the unattainable flower by back number

This is back number’s 8th single, released in June 2013.

It’s also included on their 4th album, “Love Story.” It’s a very simple, straightforward, up-tempo pop rock song, and I think most people will find it easy to sing—and it’s a good candidate for scoring high at karaoke.

In the original recording, the vocals seem to have a slightly processed, almost mechanical sound, but that’s nothing you need to worry about when you sing it.

Just enjoy yourself, keep the groove, and sing it with energy!

PredatorAKASAKI

[AKASAKI] Predator (Lyric Video)
Predator AKASAKI

Starting her career as a singer-songwriter at the young age of 16, AKASAKI skyrocketed to fame when her 2024 release “Bunny Girl” became a massive viral hit.

Her songs, woven from the fresh sensibility unique to a teenager, a mature perspective, and outstanding songwriting talent, are all remarkable—so much so that not only her peers but also working adults in their 20s and beyond will find themselves wanting to sing them at karaoke.

The same goes for “Predator,” released in May 2025: it’s a killer tune that showcases AKASAKI’s signature taste, deftly blending a J-pop vibe reminiscent of the early Heisei era with a stylish, 2020s feel.

Its catchy hook will have you humming along after just one listen.

When singing it at karaoke, try delivering it lightly without overexerting, but avoid sounding too flat—be mindful of your breathing spots and aim for a smooth, flowing performance!

In 2025, Sakanction—whose recent song “Kaibutsu” stirred major buzz—remains well known as a band that blends not only conventional rock and pop, but also elements of techno and dance music to craft a distinctive sound.

Released in 2007 as a digital-only double A-side single, “Sample” clearly showcases Sakanction’s musical experimentation: it’s a dance track with a pronounced club-music flavor, highlighted by looping synths.

At the same time, the melody has enough solid structure to work as an acoustic guitar-and-voice rendition, which speaks to their impeccable taste.

While simply following the melody isn’t particularly difficult, it’s a good idea to focus on delivering a vocal performance with dynamics so it doesn’t become too monotonous, even though the track itself doesn’t feature big shifts.

SOUVENIRBUMP OF CHICKEN

This is BUMP OF CHICKEN’s 19th digital-only single, released in September 2022.

A CD version was also released in April 2023.

The song was written as the opening theme for the second cour of the TV Tokyo anime SPY×FAMILY.

The tempo is medium to up-tempo and easy to sing, and the vocal melody doesn’t span a very wide range, so it seems like an ideal choice when you want to aim for a high karaoke score.

In the original track, there are a few spots sung in falsetto, but if you’re not confident about switching registers, I think it’s probably fine to just sing them in chest voice.

With that in mind, please give it a try.
