The Blue Nile is a band from Scotland, United Kingdom.

“The Downtown Lights” is a track from their 1989 album Hats.

The album’s CD jacket featured a striking image: a black silhouette of a person wearing a hat against a blue background.

Reflecting the mood of that image, the album is filled with introspective atmosphere, and this track is a standout.

Its uniquely soothing, wave-like sway makes it a perfect listen before drifting off to sleep at night.

“Private Dancer” is a single by American singer and actress Tina Turner, released in 1984.

It was issued as a single from the album of the same name.

Thanks to multiple hits from that album, including this song, Tina—who had been going through a difficult period—was able to return to the music scene.

He is one of the leading AOR singers, widely known and loved in Japan.

Still A Friend Of MineIncognito

The early 1990s saw a boom in acid jazz.

One of the acts that found success in this genre was Incognito.

Formed in 1979, their band name is said to mean “anonymous.” Still a Friend of Mine is a 1993 release.

While it shimmers with a sense of brightness, it also has a certain calm that, curiously, puts you at ease even when you listen at night.

LukaSuzanne Vega

Included on the 1987 album “Solitude Standing.” Born in 1959, a singer-songwriter from California.

This song deals with the theme of child abuse.

Because it features a beautifully melodic line with an overall acoustic guitar sound, listening to it while understanding the lyrics gives it a very different flavor.

The chorus phrases make my chest tighten with emotion.
