Recommended for men in their 30s: Karaoke songs that were a hit back in the day

For men in their 30s, you’re likely starting to take on more responsibility at work, and even if you don’t actually like singing that much, you may be finding more occasions where you have to go to karaoke for work-related socializing.

In this feature, we’ve put together a selection of easy-to-sing songs recommended for men in their 30s who aren’t usually that keen on singing.

It should also be helpful for those who think, “I actually like singing, but I’m not good at it…,” and end up hesitating to sing at karaoke and the like.

Some of the individual song articles include brief tips and advice on how to sing them well, so please make good use of this piece.

Beyond a Thousand Nights – Aqua Timez

Aqua Timez is a rock band known for their catchy sound that was active from the early 2000s to the mid-2010s.

Although they disbanded in 2018, they made a limited-time comeback in 2024 and have been working energetically with a Budokan concert as their goal.

For men in their early 30s, they’re likely a very nostalgic band.

Their classic “Sen no Yoru wo Koete” is catchy and very easy to sing.

While the range is slightly wide, there’s no challenging falsetto, so most people should be able to sing it without any trouble.

Life Is Beautiful ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION

Some teenage boys may be interested in Japanese music from a decade or two ago.

In particular, teens who follow the Japanese rock scene are probably digging into older bands.

That’s why I recommend Life Is Beautiful.

It’s the latest release from ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, who were hugely active in the 2000s, and it has a refreshing, soft overall vibe.

While the vocal range isn’t exactly narrow, aside from a brief falsetto in the chorus, it’s actually quite limited.

The vocal line doesn’t require vibrato, so as long as you can control your pitch and hold long notes, you can aim for a high score at karaoke.

REACHING FOR THE SKYMAN WITH A MISSION

REACHING FOR THE SKYMAN WITH A MISSION

MAN WITH A MISSION is a rock band that continues to draw popularity with their sharp, punchy sound.

They’re a mid-career band, but since they’re still active on the front lines, I think many teenage boys are familiar with them.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is REACHING FOR THE SKY.

Despite its exhilarating melody, the piece actually has a surprisingly narrow vocal range, and aside from the sustained long note at the end of the chorus, there aren’t even any mid-to-high notes.

The vocal line also works fine even if sung a bit rough, making it an ideal choice for teenage boys whose voices may still be unstable.

A Little Love SongMONGOL800

It’s a song by MONGOL800 included on their album “MESSAGE,” released on September 16, 2001.

It’s one of their signature tracks, and it’s surprising that it has never been released as a single! The song itself is a very simple and straightforward rock tune, so it should be really easy for anyone to sing.

The chorus part isn’t complicated at all, so I think it would be fun to harmonize with friends at karaoke! Just make sure to project your voice strongly when you sing!

When the mimosa bloomsDowntown Brothers

Yasushi Sasamoto ≒ Downtown Brothers - When the Mimosa Blooms (Original Ver)
Downtown brothers in the season when mimosa blooms.

This is a song by the Downtown Brothers, known for producing tracks with catchy, distinctive flows.

Because it’s a rap delivered in a mostly monotone, spoken style, it’s an easy karaoke choice even for men in their 30s who aren’t confident with pitch.

sailing dayBUMP OF CHICKEN

BUMP OF CHICKEN is a rock band that still has many fans today, thanks to their consistent musical style.

They’ve released numerous classic songs, but for men in their 30s in particular, “sailing day” might be the most nostalgic.

This track is a quintessential BUMP number, crafted as a straightforward J-pop-style rock song.

The vocal range isn’t especially wide, and while there are a few long notes here and there, the melody isn’t about soaring vocals.

So unless you’re extremely off-key, you should be able to sing it smoothly.

If I can laughUlfuls

This is a feel-good song by a group led by Japan’s energetic icon, Tortoise Matsumoto.

The melody has a narrow pitch range and can be sung in a lower octave, making it easy even for people who struggle with pitch.

It’s especially recommended as a karaoke song for people in their 30s who are in the prime of their working years and want something uplifting.
