Spring Can Really Hang You Up The MostElla Fitzgerald

Ella Fitzgerald, the Queen of Jazz, delivered a deeply moving standard with “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most,” a song born in the spring of 1955.
Instead of celebrating spring’s joy, it lays bare the emotions of heartbreak and loneliness.
In 1961, it was included on the classic album “Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie!,” where Ella’s dynamic vocals captivated countless music lovers.
The piece deftly portrays the two sides of spring: the rising hopes that accompany its arrival and the melancholy that can follow.
Take in the depth of feeling in Ella’s vocals.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking a springtime song that quietly wells up in those solitary, reflective moments.
Some Other SpringBillie Holiday

Billie Holiday has produced many classic songs about love and parting, and among them, one that especially symbolizes spring is “Some Other Spring.” Recorded in 1939, this piece showcases Billie’s delicate yet profound expressiveness.
Like spring flowers coming to life, the concept of entrusting the longing and hope for a lost love to a new spring captures the hearts of many listeners.
At the same time, it harbors an icy coldness deep within, where Billie’s true artistry shines.
As spring arrives and one tries to find love again, the past romance remains unforgettable—many listeners surely feel that poignant ache resonating through Billie’s voice.
This work is a masterpiece that brilliantly captures the complex emotions of longing for the fresh beginnings spring brings while still being haunted by a lost love.
April In ParisElla Fitzgerald

Unlike Japan, many places overseas don’t have such clearly defined four seasons, so there aren’t that many songs themed around seasons like spring or autumn.
Jazz, however, is an exception, with many works centered on seasonal themes.
Among them, one of the most popular spring-themed pieces is April in Paris.
Its softly stylish melody evokes the atmosphere of Paris in April.
This time, we’ve picked Ella Fitzgerald’s version.
April Come She WillSimon&Garfunkel

Simon & Garfunkel, the musical duo that was hugely popular in Japan as well.
They were a group that thrived in the 1960s and are also known as artists who helped create the folk boom.
A hidden gem by them that’s perfect for spring is April Come She Will.
While it’s reasonably well-known in the English-speaking world, its recognition is low in Japan, so I wanted to highlight it.
Its soothing, calm folk sound matches the image of spring and makes for a beautiful piece.
I Can See Clearly NowJimmy Cliff

Singer Jimmy Cliff from Jamaica is famous as a reggae singer, but he is also well-versed in mento, Jamaica’s traditional folk music.
His signature work, “I Can See Clearly Now,” is a piece that fully showcases mento.
While it doesn’t explicitly take spring as its theme, it features a gentle, delicate melody that brings mento to the forefront.
It perfectly matches the calm atmosphere of spring, so be sure to check it out.
Come In With The RainTaylor Swift

Taylor Swift is a singer-songwriter whose catchy musical style has won her fans all over the world.
She’s also extremely well-known in Japan.
She began her career as a country musician, but later gradually shifted her style toward pop and electro-pop.
“Come In With The Rain” is a work that lets you appreciate her charm as a country artist, and it’s known as a hidden gem themed around spring.
