[High-pitched warning!] Songs with high notes that are hard to sing
The Japanese music scene is known for having a relatively low emphasis on groove, but an unusually large number of high-pitched songs.
In particular, since Japan has finally started earnestly incorporating overseas music in recent years, the overall level of songs has risen dramatically.
With that in mind, this time we’ve picked out Japanese songs that are on the higher side.
From songs with a wide vocal range, to tracks that have pinpoint high parts, to songs that stay in the high register throughout, we selected from a broad set of perspectives—so be sure to find the tracks that suit you!

[High Notes Warning!] Difficult High-Pitched Songs to Sing (151–160)
The strong and fleeting onesCocco

A signature song by Cocco released in 1997.
Since the verses outside the chorus are sung in a soft, relaxed way, you might think the pitch is low.
However, when you try singing it, the key isn’t as low as you’d expect—nor is it too high—so you can sing without tension.
The chorus also lets you bring out your higher notes comfortably without straining, making it a great pick even for people who aren’t used to karaoke.
MoonlightHoshimachi Suisei

Suisei Hoshimachi, a singer who represents hololive.
Lately, her collaboration with Kuzuha from Nijisanji has been a hot topic in streaming and the VTuber scene.
Among her works, the one I especially recommend is Moonlight.
It’s not an extremely difficult piece, but falsetto appears throughout.
In addition, it incorporates R&B elements, so applied techniques like riffs and runs are also needed.
If you’re confident in singing soft high notes, definitely give it a try.
Blues in the ClosetI wish it could stay midnight forever.

Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.
is a band that has won overwhelming support from young people with their catchy musicality and lyrics.
They’ve been consistently churning out hit songs, but among them are tracks that are tough to sing.
One I especially recommend is “Blues in the Closet.” It doesn’t have any insanely high parts, but once the chorus hits, the high notes just keep going, so the strain on your throat is far greater than it sounds.
Give it a try.
BlessingYOASOBI

YOASOBI, comprising a singer-songwriter and a Vocaloid producer, are popular both in Japan and abroad as a unit while each maintaining their own field.
Their second single, The Blessing, used as the opening theme for the TV anime Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, features a cool digital sound paired with a clear, airy vocal that really lifts your spirits.
Since the overall key is high and the chorus includes leaps that use falsetto, be careful not to miss the notes.
If you’re a woman who’s good with high notes, it’s a great chance to show off your skills at karaoke—why not give it a try?
unravelAdo

The song “unravel” by TK, frontman of Ling tosite sigure.
Although it was released in 2014, it drew renewed attention toward the end of 2023 when Ado covered it.
The piece is famous as a difficult song with many high notes.
One of its challenging aspects is the variety of high-register vocals it demands: whisper voice, high parts with shouts, and even scream-style highs—the repertoire is extremely rich.
Beyond just the high notes, other elements are also difficult, so it’s fair to say the song requires a high level of vocal skill.
ifKana Nishino

“If” has a melody that conveys a poignant feeling right from the intro—it’s such a beautiful song.
It’s the piece my student practiced the most, and it holds special memories because they said, “I want to sing with a beautiful voice like Kana-yan’s!” and overcame their struggle with falsetto.
The highest note in this song is D#5, which is of course high, but I think the improvised falsetto lines at the beginning and end can be tough if you’re not used to them, since they’re sung with various articulations.
Those ad-lib sections sound so beautiful, so it’s worth nailing them.
With themes like “fateful encounters” and “hopes for the future,” I’d love for you to sing it to someone important to you.

Goodbye DeclarationChinozo

Chinozo is a Vocaloid producer from the Kansai region.
With the song “Goodbye Declaration,” they gained nationwide popularity and achieved the first-ever 100 million views on YouTube for a Vocaloid track.
This piece is also known for its extremely challenging high notes.
While the overall range isn’t consistently high, the chorus reaches remarkable heights.
Because it’s sung by a Vocaloid, it can be hard to gauge, but in most cases you’ll need to use falsetto.
Fortunately, there aren’t any long sustained notes, so give it a try!
