[For Women] Songs with a narrow vocal range that are easy to adjust the key for! (81–90)

Swampiri

Swampiri

iri, one of Japan’s leading female R&B singers.

While she has mainly focused on classic R&B such as slow jams, she’s now revealed a new side of herself.

That’s her track “Swamp.” Rather than straight R&B, this work leans closer to alternative R&B, and compared to her other songs, it features far fewer instances of advanced R&B techniques like vocal riffs and runs.

Plus, the vocal range is narrow, making it a great recommendation for those looking for something stylish with a limited range.

The Ten CommandmentsAdo

[Ado] The Ten Commandments (1984) (Lyric Video)
The Ten Commandments Ado

When you think of Ado, her shouts in the mid-to-high range and the expressive high notes probably come to mind, right? While those aspects are certainly part of her appeal, her lower register actually holds a great deal of charm as well.

In her cover of Akina Nakamori’s classic “Jukkai (The Ten Commandments),” you can fully savor Ado’s rich low tones.

Since it’s an older song, the vocal line is very straightforward.

That simplicity leaves little room for the kinds of tricks you find in modern pop, but it also makes it easy to follow the pitch—so consider adding it to your repertoire.

With their long-awaited major-label debut, the all-girl band Brandy Senki has begun attracting attention not only in the Japanese rock scene but also in the mainstream.

They’ve already produced several classic tracks, but the one we especially recommend is “Fix.” While it’s not a particularly low song, the overall range is kept moderate, making it very singable.

Its relaxed tempo also makes it easy to adjust your course simply, so it’s a great choice even for those who aren’t confident in their singing.

Chilli Beans.

is a girls’ band that’s won popularity for their ennui-tinged, high-sense musicality—virtually everyone in the Japanese rock scene knows them.

Their songs often have a languid vibe, and among them, the track I especially recommend for women with lower voices is “tragedy.” While it doesn’t feature specifically low parts, the vocals sit in the low-to-mid range throughout, making it very easy to sing for women with lower voices.

It’s also nice that there aren’t any complicated pitch jumps.

ReceiptVIDA Hollywood

ReceiptVIDA Hollywood

VIDA Hollywood is a four-member music group.

As you’d expect from a unit formed by members who graduated from American music schools, their style is sophisticated and close to Western pop.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is “Receipt.” It has an R&B flavor; while there are a few high notes that verge on falsetto, the song overall sits in the low-to-mid to mid vocal range, so even women with lower voices can sing it with ease.

Ayutyhaya, a bona fide alternative rock band, has been drawing attention from hardcore band enthusiasts.

The melodies born from their refined musicality are outstanding every time.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend for women with lower voices is “Get Out.” While the vocals feature a belting style, the range is surprisingly narrow and is largely set in the mid-to-low register.

It’s very easy to sing, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

Cinematic RomanceWater floating fern

Mizuniukikusa is a band that’s gained popularity for its nostalgic style.

Their music features dreamy melodies with a distinctly Japanese feel, and their unparalleled sound has earned them a strong following among die-hard band enthusiasts.

Among their songs, my top recommendation is Cinematic Romance.

Rooted in Showa-era pop, it frequently features smooth mid-to-low vocal parts that are especially friendly for lower-voiced female singers.

Be sure to add it to your repertoire.
