S-Rank Difficulty!? A Compilation of Songs with Wide Vocal Ranges

There are many factors that make people say someone is a good singer, but being able to sing with a wide vocal range is one of the easiest indicators to understand, even for those without musical knowledge.

This time, we’ve selected particularly challenging songs from among those with wide ranges.

Rather than simply being high, these picks consider both the high and low ends of the range.

Since the goal is to sing them at karaoke, many well-known pop songs are included.

Find practice songs that suit you and give them a try.

Difficulty S-Class!? A Collection of Songs with Wide Vocal Ranges (111–120)

INCUBUSAcid Black Cherry

Acid Black Cherry is a visual kei rock project that continues to be loved for its wide-ranging musicality, from catchy pop sensibilities to jazzy influences.

Often affectionately called ABC, this project’s song “INCUBUS” is among their works with an especially wide vocal range.

The verse (A-melo) is particularly low, and the chorus sustains high notes for a while afterward, making it a song that straightforwardly demands solid fundamental vocal technique.

RainSIRUP

RainSIRUP

SIRUP is a singer-songwriter active in Japan’s current R&B scene.

If you’re into Black music, you’ve probably heard of him.

Among his tracks, the one I especially recommend is Rain.

The verses sit in a low register, and when the chorus hits, falsetto comes in.

The vocal line spans a very wide range, making it fair to say the difficulty is truly S‑class.

The fact that it’s an R&B track further adds to the challenge, which is another noteworthy point.

OthelloDAZBEE

DAZBEE is a singer from South Korea.

She’s a highly popular female vocalist in the utaite community for her beautiful Japanese and emotional tone.

Among her works, the one I especially recommend is Othello.

While this song doesn’t have an exceptionally wide vocal range, it’s sung with a technique that blends falsetto and whisper voice with breath control, making breath management and control challenging.

Of course, the chest-voice parts are also high, so if you’re a woman with a higher voice, definitely give it a try.

HYDE is a rock musician who is highly acclaimed even in Europe.

He’s the vocalist everyone knows from L’Arc~en~Ciel and VAMPS.

While he has a distinctive vocal timbre, the real key to his voice’s appeal is the dramatic range between highs and lows.

His voice is characterized by strong sound pressure in both the low and high registers, and this quality is especially pronounced in “WHO’S GONNA SAVE US.” It’s not just about hitting high notes; the song demands delivering powerful high tones while also showcasing the depth of the lower parts—making it a piece that boasts S-tier difficulty.

In conclusion

Even with the same vocal range, a song’s difficulty can vary greatly depending on the vocal line.

This time we curated a variety of tracks, and you probably noticed each presented a different kind of challenge.

Rag Music also has articles that compile other high-difficulty songs.

While this selection focused on easily recognizable high-note challenges, if you’d like to experience difficulty from a different angle, be sure to check out the other articles as well.
