Angel in my heartSIZUKU

A song by singer and actress SIZUKU, digitally released in July 2023.
It is the theme song for the TV drama “I Used to Be an Idol, Now I’m a Delivery Driver,” starring Yuma Teranishi and featuring SIZUKU herself as the heroine, which begins airing on BS Fuji from July 2.
The track unfolds quite dramatically—starting with a ballad-style opening, shifting to an up-tempo feel, and returning to a ballad tone toward the end.
Despite this, the vocal melody remains consistently easy to sing throughout, and the vocal range used isn’t very wide.
As long as you keep up with the song’s development, I think it will be very easy for anyone to sing.
OmakaseAtarashii Gakkou no Leaders

The popular idol group, Atarashii Gakko no Leaders.
With their distinctive sound that mixes Showa-era pop and hip-hop, they’ve been dominating the top of the charts.
Their new song is Omakase.
This track leans more heavily into Showa pop than usual and delivers a powerful impression throughout.
That said, the vocal line has a relatively narrow range, so it’s easier to sing than it sounds.
For women who can project well in their lower register, it’s especially singable—definitely give it a listen.

HitotsuboshiKOH⁺

KOH+ is a musical duo formed by Kou Shibasaki and Masaharu Fukuyama, both of whom are active as musicians and actors.
The song Hitotsuboshi, included on the mini-album Hitotsuboshi ~Galileo Collection 2007–2022~ released on September 14, 2022, was chosen as the theme song for the film Silent Parade.
With its narrow vocal range and gently flowing melody, it’s easy to sing at karaoke.
It’s a grand ballad that invites you to sing while imagining the story of the movie.
MIRRORAdo

Ado, the diva of the Reiwa era.
She’s widely recognized as an artist with exceptional vocal ability.
Naturally, most of her songs are quite challenging, and having a wide vocal range is practically a given.
That said, Ado also has some tracks with a narrower range.
One of them is MIRROR.
This song is characterized by a downbeat, stylish musicality, and accordingly, the vocal line’s range is kept modest.
Ado’s delivery brings in falsetto a few times, but that’s a stylistic choice—these parts can be sung in chest voice as well.
Runiri

Iri is a young female singer-songwriter leading Japan’s R&B scene.
Known for her low register, her vocals’ depth and richness are highlighted in all her works.
Among her songs, the one I especially recommend for its narrow vocal range is Run.
While its groove—brimming with a driving energy that blends neo-soul and tech house—can be a bit challenging, the overall range is set fairly narrow.
It’s by no means an easy song, but since it sits in the lower to mid register, it’s definitely worth a try.
Is this love?NMB48

NMB48 has continued to enjoy long-standing popularity.
Even as members come and go, their musical style remains consistent, and they still have a strong fan base.
Among their works, a song I especially recommend to women for its narrow vocal range is ‘Kore ga Ai nano ka?’ Despite its intense, rock-inspired feel, the range is surprisingly limited.
Since it leans a bit toward the lower register, it may be easier for lower-voiced women to sing.
The timing of the chorus entry is a bit tricky, so be sure to pay attention to that part.
Fly HighAtarashii Gakkou no Leaders

ATARASHII GAKKO!, an idol group that’s gained popularity for their unique personalities and musicality.
Their songs are striking, blending flavors of 1970s and 1980s Japanese pop while staying firmly rooted in a modern sound.
Among ATARASHII GAKKO!’s tracks, a recommended song with a relatively narrow vocal range is Fly High.
Strongly influenced by hip-hop, the track sits mostly in the low-to-mid register throughout.
If you can faithfully reproduce the flow, it’s a very easy song to sing.
In conclusion
This time I focused on introducing songs with a narrow vocal range, but as you know, recent Japanese pop music tends to be higher overall.
I selected mostly major, well-known tracks here, but if you look at more niche songs, you’ll find pieces with an even narrower range.
At Rug Music, we also feature those kinds of tracks, so be sure to check out our other articles!
