Karaoke songs that are easy and fun for high school students to sing

Compared to today’s songs, older tracks didn’t pack in as many words.

Because of that, many of them were, on the surface, easier to sing than modern songs.

That doesn’t mean today’s songs are necessarily harder, though.

Since recent songs tend to cram in more words, it’s actually easier to disguise flaws, so depending on the track, some can be quite easy for anyone to sing well.

This time, I’ve picked out songs from that category that I especially recommend for high school students.

We’ll be featuring the latest tracks, so be sure to check it out to the end!

First love is cryingAimyon

Aimyon – First Love Is Crying [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
Aimyong, “First Love Is Crying”

Aimyon is a female singer-songwriter popular not only among high school students but also among adults.

She’s known for her straightforward musical style and vocals influenced by 1970s folk and pop.

Among her songs, the one I particularly recommend to high school students is “First Love Is Crying.” It’s a track with a memorable melody reminiscent of Kazuo Zaitsu, and the melody line is very simple.

Since it’s the kind of song that moves you through its lyrics, I think even those who aren’t confident in their singing can perform it easily.

cherrySpitz

A classic karaoke song that everyone knows, released by Spitz in 1996.

Although it wasn’t tied to any promotion, it became a million-seller and remains a beloved masterpiece sung by people of all ages to this day.

All the chorus parts were also performed by the vocalist, Masamune Kusano.

SaudadePorno Graffitti

Porno Graffitti 'Saudade' (“OPEN MUSIC CABINET” Live in Saitama Super Arena 2007) / 'Saudade (Live Ver.)'
Saudade Porno Graffitti

A signature hit by Porno Graffitti released in 2000.

The key is a bit high for male singers, but the flowing melody sticks with you after just one listen and is easy to learn.

There are parts that are almost like tongue twisters, giving the song a lot of drive, and you’ll likely feel refreshed after singing it through—it’s a great track for blowing off steam.

Fly awayPEDRO

PEDRO / Fly Away [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Fly away, PEDRO

PEDRO is the solo project of Ayuni D, a former member of BiSH.

Her musicality has drawn attention since her idol days, and she has continued to produce hit songs even after going solo.

Among her tracks, the one I especially recommend is Tonde Yuke (“Fly Away”).

It’s an orthodox J-pop-style rock song, with every vocal line crafted into very singable phrases.

The vocal range is also narrow, so definitely give it a try.

CinderellaTohru

Tomei – Cinderella Covered in Ashes [Official Lyric Video]
Cinder-Akari Tomyo

Female singer-songwriter Toa, who gained nationwide popularity after singing the theme song for the film Suzume, has become especially popular among high school students who appreciate her musical style.

Among her songs, the one I particularly recommend is Haikaburi (Cinderella).

It stands out with a dark tone not found in her previous works.

Since most of the vocals are sung in a whisper-like manner, it should be manageable even for those who aren’t confident in long notes or vocal power.

Creephyp – Zarameki (Music Video)
Zarameki CreepHyp

These days it’s easier than ever to explore different genres, but I think J-rock fans remain as passionate as ever.

For junior high school students who love J-rock, I recommend “Zarameki” by CreepHyp.

The song has a cohesive feel reminiscent of indie rock and dream pop, with gently undulating melodies throughout.

As a cutting-edge J-rock track, it might be the perfect song for trend-savvy junior high students.

Team friendsYuki Chiba

Yūki Chiba – Team Tomodachi (Official Music Video)
Team friend(s) Chiba Yuki

I think today’s middle school students are closer to hip-hop than any generation before them.

Among them, many middle school heads are probably listening to trap music, which leads the times.

What I recommend is Team Tomodachi.

This track is a hit number by Yuki Chiba, aka KOHH, that gained worldwide popularity.

It’s laid back in trap style, so the flow is very simple.

Even those not used to rapping should have no problem performing it.
