Aim for a high score! A collection of easy-to-sing karaoke songs recommended for high school students

When karaoke has a scoring feature, you can’t help wanting to go for a high score, right?

I’m sure many of you enjoy competing for high scores with your friends.

This time, for high school students who love karaoke, I’ve selected some songs that seem relatively easy to sing and good for aiming at high scores.

The key to getting a high score at karaoke is, above all else, to memorize the melody and rhythm (note values) accurately!

If you want to aim for a high score, listen closely to the guide melody, memorize it, and then try singing.

If you’re thinking, “There’s no way I can memorize all that,” one trick might be to turn up the guide melody volume so it’s easier to hear while you sing.

Some of the individual song introduction articles also include advice specifically for getting high scores, so be sure to use this article as a reference and get a leg up on your friends!

Bitter VacationMrs. GREEN APPLE

Bitter Vacation Mrs. GREEN APPLE

Mrs.

GREEN APPLE is a hugely popular band among young people.

Because they’re known for music that often uses high notes, many listeners may feel their songs are difficult to sing.

That’s why I recommend their new track, “Bitter Vacation.” Unusually for a Mrs.

GREEN APPLE song, this one doesn’t feature high notes.

The pitch movement is gentle as well, making it a great choice if you want to aim for a high score when singing their songs.

Be sure to add it to your repertoire.

AzaleaKenshi Yonezu

Kenshi Yonezu’s new song “Azalea.” While Yonezu has a wide musical range—from catchy to tricky—his recent releases have tended to lean toward more complex song structures.

In contrast, this new track shifts gears, featuring a downer mood and an easy-to-sing vocal line.

However, since a falsetto appears in the final chorus, if that part is too difficult, try lowering the key until you can sing the falsetto part in chest voice.

sunflowerAdo

Ado’s 18th digital-only single, released in July 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for the TBS Tuesday drama “18/40: Dreams and Love If We’re Together.” In this track, Ado showcases a wide range of vocal techniques and expressive singing that brilliantly conveys the song’s world, yet the composition and vocal melody themselves are gentle and heartwarming.

Because of that, I think it’s a relatively easy pick for karaoke if you want to aim for a high score without too much pressure.

NEW LOOKMISAMO

MISAMO is a unit formed by the Japanese members of the popular K-pop group TWICE: Mina, Sana, and Momo.

As a group of Japanese members, they’re extremely popular in Japan.

Among MISAMO’s works, the one I especially recommend is NEW LOOK.

While it’s on the slightly higher side, the overall vocal range isn’t that wide, so if you adjust it to a suitable key, it should be easy for women to sing.

Definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

Regarding the duet song Uchiage Hanabi with DAOKO, this time I’ll introduce Kenshi Yonezu’s solo version! The overall vocal range sits at a relatively calm C3–A4, showcasing Yonezu’s characteristically gentle, tender tone throughout.

In fact, pitch tends to become less stable in the lower notes than the higher ones, so it’s important to pay close attention to the very beginning of each phrase.

If your breathing is shallow, it becomes harder to produce sound, so focus on taking deep breaths.

To nail the pitch, it also helps to lift your facial muscles.

Rather than lifting them while singing, raise them as you inhale and keep them engaged as you phonate.

Since the song is relaxed, there’s ample time for breaths, so don’t forget to take one each time.

Also, because it sits in the midrange, make sure to project your voice forward so it doesn’t get muffled!

Bunny GirlAKASAKI

AKASAKI is one of the most talked-about young singer-songwriters right now.

He has an unusual background: he began working as an artist in order to gain his parents’ approval for his musical pursuits.

His distinctive personality and catchy musical style have made him popular.

His new song, Bunny Girl, features a light, airy vocal line.

While it isn’t a low song, its range is fairly narrow and the melody doesn’t have complex rises and falls, making it an ideal choice for aiming for a high score at karaoke.

Untitled tripleS

tripleS is a 24-member Korean girl group.

Despite being a very large group, each member’s individuality stands out, and they’re gaining popularity not only in Korea but also in Japan.

Among tripleS’s songs, the one I especially recommend is their new track, Untitled.

While it has a stylish musicality, the vocal line is surprisingly calm and keeps to a relatively narrow range.

There aren’t any particular tricky parts, so it’s a great pick for those looking to aim for high scores with K-pop.
