Karaoke songs that are easy for middle school students to score high on

The number-one concern middle schoolers have in music is voice change.

While girls might not feel it as much, it’s a period when the vocal cords change significantly for both boys and girls, making it arguably the most difficult time to sing in your entire life.

For middle schoolers going through this, just controlling pitch can be challenging.

On top of that, recent Japanese pop songs often feature many high notes and few rests, which makes it even harder to aim for high scores.

So this time, we’ve selected songs that even middle school students with unstable voices can use to aim for high scores.

We also carefully considered how well the songs will be received, so be sure to check them out to the end.

When love ends, Rin-ne

Rin-ne is a rapper who’s active in the overground scene and focuses on love-themed rap.

You could say he’s hugely popular, especially among junior high school girls.

Among his tracks, the one I especially recommend is “Koi ga Owareba” (When Love Ends).

Although it’s rap, it’s very melodic and built around a fairly simple vocal line, so the song is quite easy.

You can score over 90 points just by staying on pitch, so definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

A night close to morningA-ko

Ako – A Night Near Morning: MUSIC VIDEO (Ako – Twilight)
A Night Close to Dawn, A-ko

Singer-songwriter A-ko, who commands an overwhelming presence in Japan’s dark-pop scene.

Her songs blend cuteness with a dark, stylish vibe, and she has dropped numerous classics to date.

Among her tracks, the one I especially recommend is Asaga Chikai Yoru (“A Night Close to Dawn”).

It’s a stylish number, but the vocal range is narrow and there aren’t complex pitch jumps, making it perfect for aiming for a high score.

Yorunagi feat. nishinaindigo la End

indigo la End – Night Calm feat. nishina
Yoru Nagi feat. nishina indigo la End

Indigo la End is an indie rock band formed around Enon Kawatani.

With their sophisticated musicality, they’ve gained popularity in the Japanese rock scene.

Among their tracks, the one I particularly recommend is Yonagi feat.

nishina.

It’s a collaboration with singer-songwriter nishina, featuring a calm melody with many sections that lean slightly toward a rap style.

Since the overall vocal range is narrow, even junior high school students whose voices are still unstable should be able to sing it without any trouble.

Komudot is a YouTuber who enjoys overwhelming support from young women and is especially popular among middle school students.

One of their members, AMUGURI, also has talent as an artist and is active as a solo performer.

His new song, Colorful, is a straightforward J-pop number with a relatively narrow vocal range.

Since it’s not a track by a full-time singer, the melodic rises and falls are comparatively gentle.

It’s easy to sing for both men and women, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

Singer-songwriter Aile The Shota, recognized by SKY-HI.

He’s an artist known for striking R&B-centered tracks and has dropped several hit numbers.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is “Foolish (Prod.

Taka Perry).” R&B might seem difficult, but this track features almost none of the advanced techniques often considered challenging in the genre, such as ad-libs (fakes) or falls.

Aside from a few falsetto parts, the vocal range is on the narrower side, making it a great choice for junior high school students aiming for a high score with a stylish song.

SHUJINKO Whale Night City

Kujira Yoru no Machi is a rock band that has enjoyed immense popularity since the 2020s.

Known for their catchy rock sound, they produced multiple hit numbers in 2024.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is their new track, SHUJINKO.

While it features a sharp, punchy rock sound, the vocal range is relatively narrow, and it doesn’t require advanced techniques like shouts or hiccups, making it perfect for aiming for a high score.

Be sure to add it to your repertoire.

ACTORSora Tomonari

Sora Tomonari – “ACTOR” [Music Video]
ACTOR Sora Tomonari

Singer-songwriter Sora Tomonari, who has been hugely popular since his teens.

His greatest appeal is, above all, his songs that make the most of the lower register.

He isn’t necessarily a low-voiced artist, but because all his works have a narrow vocal range, he’s a very compatible choice for junior high schoolers whose voices may be unstable.

Among them, ACTOR is especially downbeat and has a particularly narrow range, making it perfect for aiming for a high score at karaoke.

The song’s structure is a bit irregular, so just keep that in mind while you sing.
