Karaoke songs that are easy for middle school students to score high on
The number-one concern middle schoolers have in music is voice change.
While girls might not feel it as much, it’s a period when the vocal cords change significantly for both boys and girls, making it arguably the most difficult time to sing in your entire life.
For middle schoolers going through this, just controlling pitch can be challenging.
On top of that, recent Japanese pop songs often feature many high notes and few rests, which makes it even harder to aim for high scores.
So this time, we’ve selected songs that even middle school students with unstable voices can use to aim for high scores.
We also carefully considered how well the songs will be received, so be sure to check them out to the end.

Karaoke Songs That Make It Easy for Junior High School Students to Score High (21–30)
paprikaFoorin
Written, composed, and produced by Kenshi Yonezu, this song was also broadcast on NHK’s “Minna no Uta.” Many of you might know it from Yonezu’s own self-cover version.
As part of the 2020 Cheer Song Project, it was created as an encouraging song with an easy-to-sing melody for everyone.
So rather than aiming for a high score at karaoke, it might be more fun to learn the dance from the dance-version music video and get hyped with your friends.
Of course, singing it solo and going for a high score is totally fine too.
It’s a very singable song, so definitely give it a try!
RPGSEKAI NO OWARI

This is SEKAI NO OWARI’s fourth major-label single, released in May 2013.
The vocalist, Fukase, has a boyish, slightly high-pitched voice, so this might be a perfect choice for junior high school students aiming for high scores.
At the beginning of the song, the original recording uses a deliberately strong pitch-correction effect for a very processed sound, but don’t worry about that—just sing it normally.
If you’re not aiming for a high score, trying to imitate that effect could be fun too (lol)! There’s a slightly high note at the end of the chorus, and if possible, singing it in a resonant chest voice without switching to falsetto will make it sound even better.

SignalWANIMA

This is a super high-energy, emo-tinged, high-tempo melodic hardcore tune by WANIMA that really gets the crowd going from the very start! Because it’s fast, the pitch should be relatively easy to grasp, but the tempo can make your rhythm waver—so be careful not to stumble over the lyrics.
One hallmark of WANIMA is the abundance of harmony parts throughout their songs.
Put in some practice and try tackling the harmonies with your friends!
Just-Woken Palm Tree (feat. Kaai Yuki)Yukopi

Yukopi’s music is addictively surreal and cute, isn’t it? Among the tracks in this release, this song has been attracting attention lately.
As a piece that captivates with its worldbuilding, the vocal line—just like in the previous work—is arranged to be very easy to sing.
Released in July 2023, this upbeat track takes bedhead as its theme.
It sparked a huge reaction, hitting one million views on YouTube in just 8 hours and 57 minutes after release.
Among the songs introduced here, it’s one of the easiest to sing, so I especially recommend it to middle schoolers aiming for high karaoke scores.
UniverseOfficial HIGE DANDism

This is “Universe” by Official HIGE DANDism, a four-member band that has performed at the Kōhaku Uta Gassen.
Released in 2021, it was also used as the theme song for the film Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021.
This track showcases Hige-Dan’s pop sensibilities as well.
It’s a song that really lets you feel the joy of music.
When singing it, note that some rhythms can be tricky, so you’ll grasp the melody better if you learn it thoroughly first.
A key part of performing it is the transition from the mid range to the high range, a hallmark of Hige-Dan’s sound.
You might just wow your friends.
bouquetback number

It’s back number’s second single, released in June 2011.
It’s a quintessential back number track—straight down-the-middle, mid-tempo guitar rock—so the melody should sink in smoothly.
When singing it at karaoke, you can probably aim for a high score just by singing naturally without overthinking it.
However, the key to scoring high is in the latter half of the chorus: when you switch between falsetto and chest voice, make sure your voice doesn’t get pulled by the previous note and become unstable.
This “voice switching” technique is on the more difficult side, so if you want to sing it well, taking some vocal lessons might be a good idea.
Voice of the SeaUrashima Taro

This is a song performed under the character name Urashima Taro by Kenta Kiritani, who plays Urashima Taro in au’s Santaro commercial series.
The song sits in a range that’s easy for men with an average vocal register, so it’s often mentioned as a karaoke-friendly choice.
If you’re not confident with high notes, lowering the key by about two steps in advance should make it easier to sing.
As long as you take care of that, the melody itself is simple and familiar, so most people should be able to sing it without much difficulty.
Evoke the feeling of a vast ocean and sing it freely without worrying about the small details!
