I went to Snow Miku Sky Town, the birthplace of Hatsune Miku
Hatsune Miku, well-known from Vocaloid—do you know where she was born?
The headquarters of Crypton, the company that sells Hatsune Miku, is located in Hokkaido.
I visited Snow Miku (Hatsune Miku)’s shop and museum, “Snow Miku Sky Town,” a character created to support Hokkaido, and I’d like to report on it here!
What is Snow Miku Sky Town?

This time, I’ve come to Hokkaido—the birthplace of Hatsune Miku, who undeniably reigns at the pinnacle of Vocaloid.
The headquarters of Crypton, the company that sells Hatsune Miku, is located in Sapporo.
Every year at the Sapporo Snow Festival, snow sculptures of Hatsune Miku are made, and the connection between Hokkaido—her birthplace—and Hatsune Miku is a strong one.

Snow Miku Sky Town opened on December 20, 2014, at New Chitose Airport, the gateway to the north.
Hatsune Miku, who made her name known worldwide as a Vocaloid character and electronic diva, has launched the first-ever theme museum.

I’d like to introduce a part of that museum.
On the 4th floor of New Chitose Airport, the northern gateway
Snow Miku Sky Town is located on the 4th floor of New Chitose Airport Terminal Building.
From the central hall of the departure lobby, take the escalator up two floors and Snow Miku Sky Town will be right in front of you.

A large graphic opens up into a space themed around Hokkaido and Snow Miku in blue and white, where charmingly expressive characters welcome you.
The wall on the opposite side was a whiteboard, and fans who visited had left many commemorative messages on it.

Your message that you wrote might still be there.
It might get through to someone.
That message wall also seemed like a driving force behind Hatsune Miku, who has grown together with the support of many people.
There are lots of exclusive items you can only buy here.

A wide variety of products, including Snow Miku Sky Town exclusive goods, are sold in the shop area.

In addition to larger items like figures and apparel, there are also many character-designed goods, as well as souvenir sweets.

Adorably stylized (deformed) design mugs and

There were many items that caught my eye, such as spacious and convenient tote bags.

Snow Miku Dayo’s rice bowl looks interesting too.
In addition to these, there are many character goods and commemorative items, but some sell out and are discontinued, so if you have a chance to stop by, it might be nice to buy something as a memento.
A museum tracing the trajectory of Hatsune Miku

At the Snow Miku Museum, there is an exhibition that traces Hatsune Miku’s journey from her birth to the present.

Piapro, which helped generate numerous derivative works along with songs centered on Hatsune Miku, is also a service operated by Crypton.
The works born from Hatsune Miku spread to the next creations and the next users, which was a major driving force behind the expansion of the boom.

Many of the product designs exhibited in the museum are also ones that adopted designs solicited from users.

The designs for each year’s Snow Miku are decided through submissions from users.
Besides the music itself, developments like these may have stimulated the imagination of many users.

And in the back of the museum, a life-sized Snow Miku is waiting.
There were people taking commemorative photos even while I was touring.
Experience the world of Hatsune Miku taking flight across the globe
At the Hokkaido Gurutto Theater located in the back of Snow Miku Sky Town, original film programs are also shown on a 360-degree screen.
Please experience the exclusive visuals and music available only here (admission is required for this area).

Because it’s located inside New Chitose Airport, anyone using the airport can stop by.
With shops and a museum you can visit for free, and even theater programs to watch if the timing works out, I think it’s an enjoyable option for passing time at the airport and an interesting space to experience the world surrounding the globally celebrated Hatsune Miku.
Since many of you reading this probably like Vocaloid, why not take the opportunity to visit Snow Miku Sky Town at least once?
