[Snickers Commercials] A roundup of popular and past commercials [2025]

The Snickers commercials are well known for the phrase “You’re not you when you’re hungry.” Born in the United States, the ads have been airing in Japan since the 1980s.

In more recent commercials, the standard setup is that “when you’re hungry, you turn into [someone/something],” featuring a wide range of celebrities, athletes, and musicians.

Many of these spots also include fairly edgy, dark humor, which has sparked a lot of buzz for being so funny.

In this article, we’ll round up and introduce Snickers commercials from over the years.

Mars Japan Limited SNICKERS “Soccer” VersionErika Sawajiri

SNICKERS® “Soccer Edition” TV Commercial 30 Seconds

The person appearing in this “Soccer” commercial is Erika Sawajiri.

Many were probably surprised by the bold casting choice of featuring Sawajiri—once notorious for her curt “Whatever” remark at a stage greeting—in a Snickers ad, whose signature premise is “you’re not you when you’re hungry.” She makes a strong impression with hard tackles during a soccer match and a superb punt kick.

Her sullen demeanor—reminiscent of that stage appearance—is playfully used as a comedic element in the commercial, making it a highlight to watch!

A Snickers commercial featuring Tenshin Nasukawa, who switched from kickboxer to boxer.

The ad opens with his inner feelings—confidence, nerves, and anxiety—popping up like manga speech bubbles before a match.

Just as he’s about to be crushed by a sudden wave of anxiety and tension, Snickers appears! After he eats a Snickers, he transforms into a hero and one-punches those enemies called anxiety and nerves.

He regains his confidence, declaring, “I’m the strongest.” It’s a high-impact commercial that blends Nasukawa with animation.

By the way, Nasukawa’s inner voice and the narration are performed by Afro from MOROHA.

Iwai vents his frustration about young comedians claiming they’re hooked on Puzzle & Dragons just to get work—he rants passionately, but the key parts are bleeped out, with a Snickers bar humorously covering his mouth so you can’t read his lips.

The ad portrays a disciplined attitude: playing Puzzle & Dragons nonstop until you get hungry, and when you do, grabbing a Snickers and keeping on playing.
