The continuation of this EarthKobukuro

Kobukuro’s ninth digital-only single, released in July 2022.
It’s the official theme song for the Osaka-Kansai Expo scheduled for 2025.
By the way, the title “地球” is read as “Hoshi” (star).
From the very start of the intro, it’s a fun song that makes you feel excited and sense a bright future for our planet! With so many gloomy topics these days, it feels like this is exactly the kind of song we need.
Because of that, I don’t really want to get too technical about “how to sing it,” but just one point: despite the tempo, the song is built on broad, sweeping melodic lines with relatively large note values.
So take care to honor that “big melodic flow” and be careful not to rush the rhythm when you sing.
It might also be fun to sing it together as a group chorus.
Becoming a Thousand WindsMasafumi Akikawa

This was Masafumi Akikawa’s debut single, released on May 24, 2006.
It became a huge hit and generated a lot of buzz at the time, so I’m sure many of you will find it familiar.
Since Akikawa is a classically trained vocalist, he performs with a commanding voice, strong vocal technique, and expressive power.
Because of that, some people may hesitate to pick it for karaoke when comparing themselves to the original.
However, the melody itself is more like a traditional song than pop—it’s very straightforward and easy to sing—so I think it’s a piece that anyone can handle comfortably.
If this gets you interested in singing it and then inspires you to level up and aim for a performance like his… that could be a really fun journey!
ALOSDaichi Miura

It’s Daichi Miura’s 11th digital-only single, released in February 2023.
At first listen, some people might think, “Isn’t this hard to sing!?” because he switches between various high-tone vocals, but you can solve that by lowering the key in karaoke—so feel free to sing along casually.
The rhythm has a slightly unique feel, which I think is part of Miura’s signature style, and once it clicks, the melody feels really good.
Definitely practice it.
Once you get past that hurdle, I think you’ll realize it’s actually an easy song to sing.
Happinessstorm

Arashi’s 20th single overall, released in September 2007.
When someone who isn’t very confident at singing picks songs for karaoke, choosing from this kind of idol song is about as textbook as it gets.
True to form, this track has a very light, catchy rhythm and an easy-to-remember melody that’s simple to hum along to.
Most people should be able to sing it in the original key, too.
Just note that it modulates when moving from the verse and pre-chorus into the chorus, so keep an eye on that part when you actually sing.
Since it’s a group song, though, you can forget the finer points and just have fun singing it together with everyone there!
Real-time singer-songwriterYu Takahashi

Singer-songwriter Yu Takahashi, known for his catchy, emotionally impactful lyrics, has earned widespread popularity.
While his early work leaned toward orthodox rock, he’s recently been releasing many highly original tracks.
Among his catalog, Real-Time Singer-Songwriter is a standout recommendation.
Its vocal line is extremely catchy, and with a fair number of sustained notes, you can aim to rack up points with vibrato.
There’s a key change, so it has a bit of a quirk, but the vocal line itself is simple—definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.
GraduationYutaka Ozaki

It was Yutaka Ozaki’s fourth single, released on January 21, 1985.
Although it’s a slow-tempo ballad, Ozaki’s powerful vocals—like he’s venting the frustrations of junior and senior high school students of the time who were constrained by strict school rules—are truly striking.
I actually first heard this song when I was in high school, and I clearly remember being deeply moved by the lyrics.
I imagine many people can relate to the words in this song.
Musically, the melody is simple and very easy to sing, so rather than trying to sing it perfectly, I feel that conveying the meaning of the lyrics and expressing your emotions straightforwardly will do more to capture listeners’ hearts.
As a personKaientai

This is the 18th single by Kaientai, led by Tetsuya Takeda, released on November 5, 1980.
It served as the theme song for the classic drama “Mr.
Kinpachi in Class 3B” (Series 2), starring Takeda.
The show drew attention for tackling school violence, which had become a social issue at the time.
In the final episode’s graduation ceremony, it became customary for the series’ theme song to be sung within the drama.
Many of you reading this may have sung this song at your own elementary school or graduation ceremony.
Musically, both the melody and lyrics are very straightforward and simple, and the vocal range isn’t very wide, making it easy to hum and sing casually.
Why not sing it and reminisce about those nostalgic days?
