Karaoke songs that are easy and fun for high school students to sing
Compared to today’s songs, older tracks didn’t pack in as many words.
Because of that, many of them were, on the surface, easier to sing than modern songs.
That doesn’t mean today’s songs are necessarily harder, though.
Since recent songs tend to cram in more words, it’s actually easier to disguise flaws, so depending on the track, some can be quite easy for anyone to sing well.
This time, I’ve picked out songs from that category that I especially recommend for high school students.
We’ll be featuring the latest tracks, so be sure to check it out to the end!

treasurewacci

Wacci’s songs, which are drawing attention on the music scene, are characterized by warm melodies and lyrics that resonate with the heart.
Released in August 2017, this piece is a moving song themed around the bond with someone important.
With a simple melody and a relatively narrow vocal range, it’s easy to sing at karaoke.
The lyrics, which depict how friendship and love make people stronger, are sure to strike a chord.
It’s a perfect song not only for high school students, but also for anyone who wants to express gratitude to someone special.
Why not immerse yourself in wacci’s warm musical world?

ChikaAimyon

A track included on Aimyon’s third album, “Heard There’s Delicious Pasta,” released in September 2020.
It’s a lively mid-tempo number with a very catchy vocal melody, making it perfect for having fun singing at karaoke.
In the A-melody sections, Aimyon’s slightly relaxed vocal style really shines.
It contrasts nicely with the parts in the chorus where she sings with a bit more power, resulting in a great overall feel.
Since the rhythm has a slight bounce, be sure to keep that light, breezy feel when you sing it at karaoke.
CandyNaoko Gushima

With the recent revival boom, many high school students may find themselves drawn to the charm of older musical styles.
For those listeners, I highly recommend “Candy,” sung by Naoko Kaijima.
It’s a song that incorporates city pop elements and features an easy-to-sing melody throughout.
The latter half does include a series of slightly higher parts, but any high school girl who can reach reasonably high notes should be able to handle it without trouble—so give it a try!
Spot the differenceMasaki Suda

Released in 2019 as Masaki Suda’s first digital single, this song was used as the theme for the drama “Perfect World.” It was also the song with which Suda made his first appearance at NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen as a singer.
The lyrics and composition are by Kenshi Yonezu, who has also released his own self-cover version.
With its medium tempo and beautiful melody, it should be easy and enjoyable to sing at karaoke.
While Suda has strong vocal ability as a singer, he doesn’t perform in a way that flaunts his skill; instead, he sings very naturally.
In that sense, it’s a song that should feel approachable for high school students as well.
Try singing it with an emphasis on natural expression.
Summer MiracleKALMA

A digital-only single by the Japanese rock band KALMA, released on June 9, 2021.
It’s an up-tempo rock song in a major key that makes you feel good just by listening, don’t you think? True to its title, it perfectly evokes a fun summer.
When it comes to singing this song, overthinking it would be missing the point.
I hope high school students will belt it out freely and enjoy it.
That said, some people may find the high notes—like at the end of the chorus—tough in the original key, so feel free to lower the key if needed.
Still, I feel this is the kind of song where it’s better to have fun and sing out loud—even if you’re a bit off pitch—than to focus on hitting the high notes perfectly.
Sing it out powerfully!
Just a little moreYOASOBI

A music unit, YOASOBI’s digital single released on May 10, 2021.
It is their ninth digital single.
The song was also selected as the 2021 annual theme for Fuji TV’s “Mezamashi TV.” This track has a light, slightly swung rhythm, making it easy and fun to hum along to at karaoke—even for those who don’t often sing.
Of course, YOASOBI’s singer ikura is highly regarded for her vocal ability; if you listen closely to her performance, you’ll notice how skillfully she switches her vocal delivery depending on the melody and lyrics.
Also, perhaps because YOASOBI’s songwriter Ayase started out as a Vocaloid producer, the sound production uses pitch correction as an effect.
Some people who aren’t confident singers might find that off-putting, but the song itself—especially the vocal melody—is very approachable and pop-leaning.
Don’t let your first impression fool you; feel free to pick it at karaoke and have fun with it!
sparkleFujii Kaze

Kirari is a digital-only track by Fujii Kaze released in 2021.
It was written as the song for Honda’s VEZEL commercial and is said to be his first CM tie-in.
I’m introducing it under the theme of “a song that’s easy to sing and enjoy,” but in truth, singing it at a similar quality to the artist himself is extremely difficult.
As you’ll notice when you listen to the recording, it moves from a slightly relaxed, light vocal delivery, to sections featuring high tones skillfully using falsetto, and then to powerful singing in the latter half.
To reproduce all of that like he does requires a high level of vocal technique and expressiveness.
That said, the song itself is a lively, lightly syncopated mid-tempo pop number, and the chorus melody in particular is very catchy and memorable, making it an ideal piece to sing casually and hum along to without worrying about the finer points.
If this song helps you discover the “joy of singing,” I think it’s the kind of track you can then enjoy by adding more nuanced expression as your own skills improve.
For starters, try singing it lightly, as if you’re humming, and have fun with its breezy feel!
