A must-see for low-voiced women! Popular songs that are easy to sing at karaoke

These days, many songs for both women and men are in higher keys, so there are probably many women with lower voices who feel, “I can’t find songs I can sing because my voice is low,” or “I’m looking for lower-key songs for karaoke.” Forcing yourself to sing songs that don’t suit your natural voice can hurt your throat, and it can be stressful when you can’t sing the way you want.

But don’t worry! There are plenty of songs that sound captivating even with a low voice.

In this article, we’ll introduce lots of songs that women with lower ranges can sing comfortably and confidently.

Male artist (21–30)

SaudadePorno Graffitti

Porno Graffitti 'Saudade' (“OPEN MUSIC CABINET” Live in Saitama Super Arena 2007) / 'Saudade (Live Ver.)'
Saudade Porno Graffitti

It’s Porno Graffitti’s fourth single, released in September 2000.

The melody and rhythmic arrangement, which evoke Latin music, are wonderfully pleasant.

In the original, it’s sung by a male vocalist with bright, ringing high notes, but if a woman with a lower voice sings this very mature-sounding song, it will bring out a new kind of charm and make it truly lovely! You may need to adjust the key to suit your own voice, but definitely give it a try!

loveGen Hoshino

Gen Hoshino – Koi (Official Video)
Love Hoshino Gen

Released in October 2016 as Gen Hoshino’s 9th single.

It was also the theme song for the TBS drama “Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu” (We Married as a Job), and the Koi Dance became a hot topic! I bet many of you sang and danced the Koi Dance at school or work events.

In terms of vocal range, it’s absolutely fine for women to sing too, so don’t overthink it—just have fun!

cherrySpitz

This is Spitz’s 13th single, released in April 1996.

The singer, Masamune Kusano, has a relatively high-pitched voice for a male vocalist, so for the average man it’s often a bit difficult to sing this song in the original key at karaoke.

However, for women with lower voices choosing from male-vocal tracks, this is one of the best choices.

Since the rhythm has a bouncy feel, be sure to value that light, brisk quality when you sing, and take care not to make it sound heavy!

Eine KleineKenshi Yonezu

Released in April 2014, it’s one of Kenshi Yonezu’s signature songs.

In the original, Yonezu delivers a cool, masculine vocal performance, but this is also one of those songs that gains a new charm when sung by a female vocalist.

If a woman sings it, I think the melody would likely be taken an octave lower, and I’d love to see it shaped into a calm, mellow rendition.

A soft vocal that seems to float above the backing track would be wonderful!

BFFMrs. GREEN APPLE

It seems that the performance style of “BFF” features only the three members of Mrs.

Green Apple, with no supporting instruments.

Each sound is clean, making it a simple ballad.

The vocal range is C3 to D5, with C#4 used frequently throughout the song.

The first note of the A melody is the lowest pitch, which might make it a bit tricky to hit accurately.

For the low notes, focus not on “pushing strongly” but on “releasing your voice slowly.” If you lift your facial muscles properly and project your voice as if placing it right in front of you, it will resonate well even in the low register.

By the way, when singing, it’s generally ideal to keep your facial muscles lifted the entire time.

I always tell my students this, and since Omori-san often does it, be sure to watch closely! Also, there’s humming in the song, so definitely try it.

If you can hum lightly, singing the rest will become easier!

LonelinessMrs. GREEN APPLE

This song is included on the 5th album “ANTENNA,” released on July 4, 2023, and it conveys Ms.

Omori’s strength and gentleness.

The overall vocal range is C3–D5, but there aren’t many high notes in the song; it mostly sits around G3, so I think it’s a piece you can sing almost entirely in chest voice.

That said, there are spots where falsetto appears—switch lightly into head voice, aiming for a gentle head resonance.

The chorus is where the emotion really surges and you can feel the power.

Keep a solid sense of rhythm and hit the first note cleanly.

Also, when the melody changes, be mindful of pitch.

If your singing style shifts drastically, you may tense up or strain your throat, so keep your facial muscles lifted to prevent the pitch from dropping.

Try to maintain the sensation of resonance around the glabella (between the eyebrows) throughout.

That gentle girlSpitz

It’s Spitz’s 42nd single, released in June 2019.

It’s a light, buoyant song with a bouncy shuffle beat that feels great, and perhaps because it was used as the theme song for the NHK morning drama Natsuzora, just listening to it conjures up images of a refreshing summer sky.

Now, what happens when a woman sings this song? For female singers, even those who aren’t confident with high notes likely won’t produce the same taut, ringing high register as the original male vocal; instead, the range may come out quite easily.

As a result, the original sense of “freshness” might diminish a bit, but in exchange, it could become a song that evokes slightly sepia-toned scenes reminiscent of summer vacations from childhood.

I think it’s a song that can express a new worldview when sung by a woman, so I encourage you to give it a try!
