Angel's SuitcaseSIX LOUNGE

SIX LOUNGE is a three-piece rock band from Oita.
Hailed as the next big act in the Japanese rock scene, their music is gritty, no-frills rock.
The masculine energy in their songs and vocals is seriously cool.
The vocal range isn’t very high, so it should be very easy for male singers to cover.
The tempo isn’t too fast or too slow either—just right for singing.
that paper airplane19

A male folk duo, 19’s second single, released in March 1999.
The original singers’ voices are very simple and friendly, and the melody is easy to remember, so even if you sing this song at karaoke, there probably won’t be many parts you find difficult.
Just be careful not to let the brief falsetto part right before the chorus sound weak—switch your voice smoothly as you sing.
If you relax and let the falsetto come out gently without forcing it, you should be able to sing it nicely!
DororoASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION

A track by ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, a band that continues to lead Japan’s rock scene.
The vocalist, Masafumi Gotoh, is known for his irresistibly rich voice brimming with masculine charm! While some Ajikan songs are in a higher key, this one is especially recommended for men with lower voices.
Why not try channeling him—nasal nuances and all—and make the song your own?
If I become a superstarback number

He went through a heartbreak but doesn’t want it to end like this… This song captures a man’s resolve to start a band and vow to grow, hoping to win back the person he loved.
It carefully portrays the protagonist’s feelings as he moves from self-deprecation to a determined, forward-looking mindset, making it highly relatable.
Included on the album “Superstar,” released in October 2011, the track spans a wide vocal range, but its highly empathetic lyrics make it easy to sing with feeling—perfect for karaoke.
It’s a compelling song that gives a push to anyone who wants to revive a dream they’d almost given up on.
Why not give it a try?
Heroineback number

A winter love song that delicately portrays the protagonist’s aching feelings.
Its faint, tender romance is supported by back number’s signature nuanced storytelling and warm musicality, resonating deeply with listeners.
Released as a single in January 2015, it also became well known as the campaign song for JR East’s “JR SKISKI.” Later, in 2020, Shimizu Iyori’s stripped-down solo version was featured in a commercial for Kirin’s Tanrei Green Label.
Singing of a bittersweet winter love, the song’s relatable lyrics and gentle melody appeal to all genders, and its singability is part of its charm.
At karaoke, make the most of its comfortable range for a soft, heartfelt performance.
Reverse TriggerSukima Switch

Sukima Switch is a popular duo that has energized Japan’s J-pop scene for many years.
They still release new songs consistently, and you can always spot them around the middle of the charts.
Among their works, the one I especially recommend is Gyakuten Trigger.
It fully showcases the duo’s charm: bright, uplifting messages and melodies.
Despite its high energy, there are plenty of spots to breathe and the vocal range isn’t wide, so most male singers should be able to handle it without any trouble.

graceFujii Kaze

This is singer-songwriter Kaze Fujii’s 12th digital single, released in October 2022.
Over a mechanical four-on-the-floor beat, the freely bouncing piano and smooth vocal melody make it a very pleasant listen.
When you sing it at karaoke, keep that four-on-the-floor beat firmly in mind, but also try not to lose the horizontal continuity and flow of the melody.
The melody itself isn’t particularly complex, so it’s fine to sing it lightly, as if you’re humming.
