summer coldLeila

Layla is a rock band known for their uplifting lyrics.
They excel at an orthodox J-pop-style rock sound developed around the 2010s, and they’ve been drawing attention in the Japanese rock scene.
Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is “Summer Cold.” It’s a refreshing track that evokes the feel of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, with the arrangement centered in the low to low-mid frequency range throughout.
Although it’s a powerful song, the vocal range is quite narrow, so consider adding it to your repertoire.
Unraveling Love ~A Little Courage~Mai Kuraki

This is the 15th digital-only single by Mai Kuraki, released in October 2023.
It was selected as the opening theme for the anime Detective Conan.
Kuraki, who debuted at age 17 in 1999 and earned high praise for her vocal ability, delivers an even more mature performance in this track, released roughly a quarter century after her debut.
Her singing showcases a richly resonant, captivating lower-to-mid register.
I especially recommend women who are strong in the lower range try recreating this deep, resonant vocal at karaoke.
The track features a distinctive four-on-the-floor beat, so it’s best to feel that accent clearly and sing with an overall light touch.
No Makeup Star feat. UtaGenie High

Jenny High is a band formed by an unconventional lineup.
While it may be a project-based band, their songwriting sense is exceptional, and their high-level musicality has earned strong acclaim within the industry.
Their collaboration with Uta, known from Wednesday Campanella, is this track: “No Make Star feat.
Uta.” The song has a slightly jazzy flavor and sits overall in the upper-mid to lower-mid vocal range.
In particular, it features many lower-mid parts, making it an ideal piece for showcasing the charm of lower-voiced female singers.
Lingering Snowdolphin
The song we’re introducing this time is famous for Iruka’s cover, but it was originally by Shozo Ise’s folk trio, Kaguyahime.
Iruka’s cover version, which we’re featuring here, was released in November 1975.
It’s a slightly melancholic yet heartwarming piece, with a vocal melody that doesn’t have extreme highs and lows, so it’s a song you can sing reflectively.
That means it should be comfortable at karaoke even for women who struggle with high notes or have lower voices.
The key to making it sound good is to cherish the scenes evoked by the lyrics and sing the whole song gently and smoothly.
When you actually sing it, try to keep it calm and unforced.

flower-eaterPhantom Seater

Phantom Theta is an idol group produced by Ado, the songstress of the Reiwa era.
Unlike traditional idols, they’re distinguished by intense vocals reminiscent of Ado herself.
Among their tracks, the one I especially recommend is Hanagumi.
While it’s a high-energy song, the chorus doesn’t span a wide range, and it includes many low-register parts, making it perfect for bringing out the appeal of high-voiced female singers.
Be sure to add it to your repertoire.
A quiet legendMariya Takeuchi

Mariya Takeuchi’s new song “Shizukana Densetsu” (“A Quiet Legend”).
Mariya Takeuchi’s vocal charm lies in her lower to mid range, and the arrangement of the track is crafted to make the most of her strengths.
This release is no exception, featuring a composition that highlights her mid-to-low register.
Since it doesn’t have the fast tempo or vocal lines typical of recent pop, women in their 40s and above with lower voices should be able to sing it comfortably.
Even younger women can use it to convey a mature allure, so give it a try at karaoke.
Kiss the windGLIM SPANKY

GLIM SPANKY is a rock duo that’s gained popularity for their low, husky vocal tone.
Their vocals, which blend emotional depth with cool swagger, leave a strong impression.
Among GLIM SPANKY’s works, the one I especially recommend for women with lower voices is “Kaze ni Kisu o Shite” (“Kiss the Wind”).
Musically, it’s straightforward, rock-tinged J-pop.
The easiest part to sing is, without a doubt, the chorus.
While choruses typically ramp up in intensity, this song does the opposite—the melody actually drops slightly in range.
And since it’s not a key change, there’s no worry about going off pitch.
