A must-see for low-voiced women! Popular songs that are easy to sing at karaoke

These days, many songs for both women and men are in higher keys, so there are probably many women with lower voices who feel, “I can’t find songs I can sing because my voice is low,” or “I’m looking for lower-key songs for karaoke.” Forcing yourself to sing songs that don’t suit your natural voice can hurt your throat, and it can be stressful when you can’t sing the way you want.

But don’t worry! There are plenty of songs that sound captivating even with a low voice.

In this article, we’ll introduce lots of songs that women with lower ranges can sing comfortably and confidently.

GoodbyeGAO

GAO – Sayonara [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
Goodbye, GAO

This was GAO’s second single, released in April 1992.

It was also used as the theme song for the Nippon TV drama “Suteki ni Damasite!” and went on to become a million seller.

With GAO’s masculine allure in both looks and vocals, this is an ideal karaoke pick for women with low, husky voices.

Plus, the 1990s—when this track came out—were truly a golden age of J-pop, and major labels were far more conscious than today of how often songs would be sung at karaoke.

This track is no exception: it’s built around a very memorable, easy-to-sing melody.

Feel free to select it at karaoke and showcase the appeal of your husky, androgynous tone to the fullest.

Just be careful not to strain your throat when you hit the higher notes.

Good Day After the Rain (feat. iri) - Hanaregumi

Hanaregumi is a solo act that has won popularity with its ennui-tinged musicality.

You may already know them, as they’ve collaborated with many artists.

The track created by Hanaregumi and popular female R&B singer iri is Rainy After Good Day (feat.

iri).

Since this work features iri—whose voice is low—as the main vocalist, it’s crafted to be very singable for low-voiced women.

It doesn’t include the kind of intricate vocal runs typical of R&B, so it’s exceptionally easy to sing.

Be sure to add it to your repertoire.

LOOPUpiko

LOOP Upiko

Upiko is a female singer-songwriter who is often hailed as a successor to Miyuki Nakajima.

She has a voice quality similar to Nakajima’s, and her growling low-register delivery is especially striking.

Among her works, the one I particularly recommend for women with lower voices is LOOP.

While this piece has a slight rock flavor, its range is modest and it stays mostly in the low-mid to mid register throughout.

The rhythm is easy to follow, making it a song that even those who aren’t confident singers can comfortably perform.

AhhhEMU

AhhhEMU

EMU, a female singer-songwriter who’s been attracting a lot of attention lately.

She originally worked as a producer writing songs for idols and others, and only recently stepped into the spotlight herself.

Among her tracks, the one I especially recommend for women with lower voices is “Ahhh.” It has a rock flavor, but the vocal line is very downbeat, with no parts that require belting.

There is one high note in the chorus, but you can just sing it with a light falsetto, so even women who struggle with high notes can feel at ease.

DEAR FRIENDSParsons

Parsons -DEAR FRIENDS- Version 1
DEAR FRIENDS Parsons

This is PERSONZ’s fourth single, released in February 1989.

It was used as the theme song for the TBS drama “Mamahaha Boogie.” JILL, the vocalist of PERSONZ, is a singer whose appeal lies in her very husky, powerful voice, so I think this song is highly recommended as a karaoke pick for women with lower speaking voices.

Another plus is that the vocal melody is very pop and easy to remember! Some people might find the highest notes in the chorus a bit tough, but just go with the groove of the song, belt it out, and have fun! Try engaging your core around the solar plexus and lifting your ribcage as you sing.

I’m sure you’ll find the high notes easier than singing normally!

StarsMika Nakashima

Mika Nakashima’s debut single, released on November 7, 2001.

It was used as the theme song for the Kansai TV/Fuji TV drama “Scarred Love Song.” It’s a quiet ballad, but you can enjoy some very passionate vocals in the chorus.

Mika Nakashima herself has a wonderfully rich voice with plenty of low overtones, so it’s a great song for women with lower voices to try at karaoke.

That said, the melody does include quite a few high notes.

As Mika does in the track, make good use of falsetto when you sing.

Whether you can switch smoothly between registers will make or break how good this song sounds.

If you’re not confident with register transitions, try lowering the key at karaoke.

Days of JewelsAina the End

Aina the End / Days of Jewels [Official Music Video] (TV Anime Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Final Episode Insert Song)
Aina the End of Days of Jewels

This is Aina The End’s 11th digital-only single, released in July 2023.

Her husky voice and slightly languid delivery create an exquisite world within the song.

For women with a similarly husky, slightly boyish voice, this could be one of the best choices to sing at karaoke.

There’s a section in the final chorus where the vocal melody goes a bit higher, so please be careful not to strain your voice or hurt your throat.
