Challenge your limits! A collection of Vocaloid songs with high keys and soaring high melodies

Many people probably have the impression that “Vocaloid songs have high keys.” In fact, the pitch range you can manipulate with synthetic vocal software is quite wide.

If you own one, you know—you’ve probably tried making it sing at absurdly high pitches, right? In this article, I’ve put together a list of Vocaloid songs with high keys! I think it’s a playlist that can help you choose songs for karaoke or cover videos.

Strictly speaking, in music theory there’s a difference between “a melody that includes high notes” and “a song with a high key,” but I’ve kept things loose here to be more accessible.

By all means, challenge the limits of your own vocal cords!

Double LariatAgo Aniki

[Megurine Luka] Double Lariat [HD]
Double Lariat Ago Aniki

This is a song that became a hot topic on Nico Nico Douga at the time because the illustration of Megurine Luka kept moving even when the video was paused.

It’s one of Agoaniki’s signature tracks and was released in 2009.

I started by talking about the video, but the song itself is truly wonderful.

It sings of the resolve to keep pushing forward headlong, even while recalling one’s former self and feeling a touch of sadness.

It’s a guitar rock track with a simple structure, so you might not notice it just by a quick listen, but you’ll understand how high the key is when you try singing it.

If you sing it at karaoke, be careful not to strain your throat.

[Official] Neroism / Kairiki Bear feat. Narukaka Mikoto
Neroism Kairiki Bear

Kairiki Bear, a Vocaloid producer known for supplying songs to many creators—including the YouTuber P-Maru-sama—has also gained popularity for edgy tracks laced with irony.

His 2020 release “Neroism” is perfect for those looking for high-key Vocaloid songs.

The rhythmic guitar that pulses through the uptempo beat is striking, and the cute, girlish vocals of Nekkara Mikoto are a must-hear.

Try singing the uniquely humorous lyrics with your own high-tone voice!

Sasakure.

UK, who has produced many classic chiptune tracks.

To commemorate the collaboration project between the game “Figure Story” and Hatsune Miku, he wrote “Decadance.” It serves as the theme song for the character Dia, singing of a dark world and the characters who strive to live within it.

Overall, the key is quite high.

It’s also high-tempo with few places to take a breath, making it fairly challenging.

The Skeleton Band and LiliaToma

[Hatsune Miku] The Skeleton Orchestra and Lilia [Original Song]
The Skeleton Orchestra and Liliatoma

It’s a song that immediately lets you know from the intro that it’s “nothing but fun.” As the title includes the word “band,” the sound layers the timbres of various instruments, and together with the rhythm, the cohesion is superb, radiating a charm that makes you want to sway your body.

However, for a song that seems purely fun, there are unsettling words—starting with “skeleton” in the title.

While pondering the hidden message, I want it to be sung with the energy dialed all the way up—that kind of song.

Good-byejohn

Good-bye / Yume no Kesshō ROSE
Goodbye, John

“Good-bye,” brought to us by john, is a masterpiece of a Vocaloid track that pushes expressiveness in the high register to the extreme.

Its melody, blending poignancy with exhilaration, resonates deeply with listeners.

In particular, the build-up of tension toward the climax reaffirms the boundless possibilities of music.

john’s taste in sound selection and ROSE’s vocals fuse beautifully—it’s simply outstanding.

Give it your all and take on the challenge!

ten-faced figureYM

Ten-Faced / YM (sung by the author)
Ten-Faced YM

This is a song that depicts a girl who has ended up with ten different personalities.

How did it happen, and what will become of her from there? Her feelings are spun intensely and enigmatically.

As if mirroring a quickening crush, the melody is structured to gradually pick up tempo, making it captivating even without the story told in the lyrics.

Loved by many and even adapted into a novel, this song is one you can enjoy to your heart’s content—especially recommended for rock fans.

PRIMARY / Iyowa feat. Kafu
primarily weak

Vocaloid producer Iyowa, known for songs with unstable yet addictive melodies, has gained popularity.

Primally, chosen as a tie-in song for Sanrio’s mixed-media project “Mai Mai Maigoen,” sticks in your head with its driving shuffle beat and cute sound.

With its fast tempo and very high key, it could be considered one of the more challenging tracks even among Vocaloid songs.

If you find it impossible to sing, the range itself isn’t wide, so you can still enjoy singing this Vocaloid number by starting from the edge of your own vocal range.
