Challenge your limits! A collection of Vocaloid songs with high keys and soaring high melodies

Many people probably have the impression that “Vocaloid songs have high keys.” In fact, the pitch range you can manipulate with synthetic vocal software is quite wide.

If you own one, you know—you’ve probably tried making it sing at absurdly high pitches, right? In this article, I’ve put together a list of Vocaloid songs with high keys! I think it’s a playlist that can help you choose songs for karaoke or cover videos.

Strictly speaking, in music theory there’s a difference between “a melody that includes high notes” and “a song with a high key,” but I’ve kept things loose here to be more accessible.

By all means, challenge the limits of your own vocal cords!

extremely variedNuyuri

Nuyuri – Goku-goku Sai-sai / flower: VIVIVIVID
Gokugoku Saisai Nuyuri

While incorporating a jazzy flavor, this piece is finished with a funky edge.

It’s a track by the Vocaloid producer Nuyuri—also known for “Fragile”—and is included on the album ACT7.

In contrast to its glamorous sound, the lyrics convey a sense of loneliness in modern society.

Paired with flower’s squeezed-out, emotive vocals, it strikes deeply at the listener’s heart.

How about singing it while reflecting on your own life?

lowerNuyuri

Nuyuri – Lower / Flower: Lower one’s eyes
Lower nuyuri

A recommended song for those who want to psych themselves up to tackle a high-key track is “Lower.” It was released in 2021 by the Vocaloid producer Nuyuri, who also works under the solo project Lanndo.

It’s a danceable number filled with passionate emotion.

Flower’s vocals, etched into the bass-heavy sound, are cute and charming.

The trick is to sing smoothly in time with the rhythmic tempo.

If you like EDM or jazz, you’ll surely get hooked.

If you’re confident in your high-tone voice, definitely give it a try!

Emotional Deceivero-aru

A Vocaloid song by Ro-aru, released in April 2022.

It’s a piece marked by an energetic tempo and a wonderfully satisfying chorus.

You can feel the protagonist’s pain as they’re trapped in jealousy and inferiority born from comparisons with others, caught in a negative spiral—it’s hard not to empathize.

At the same time, the song also carries a strong will to overcome those struggles.

When you face hardships or setbacks in life, it might be good to sing this song while recalling the message it conveys.

CharlesBalloon

Charles / Balloon (self cover)
Charles Balloon

If you’re a Vocaloid fan, you probably know “Charles.” It’s a piece by balloon, also known under the singer-songwriter name Keina Suda, released in 2017.

Its stylish chord progressions and brisk rhythm first grab the listener’s heart, and then the profound lyrics about love keep you captivated.

The chorus is particularly high in pitch and quite challenging to sing.

If you feel you can’t hit the notes, try using falsetto.

Make a solid plan like “I’ll switch to falsetto just for the timing of these specific lyrics.”

Maiden AnatomyDECO*27

DECO*27 – Maiden Dissection feat. Hatsune Miku
Otome Kaibou DECO*27

Why not try your hand at a yandere-flavored love song? This piece by DECO*27, a Vocaloid producer behind numerous hits, was released in 2019.

It’s a fan favorite also featured in the mobile game Project Sekai.

The mix of rock built on a four-on-the-floor rhythm is insanely addictive, and Miku’s slightly mature vocals shine.

The chorus reaches high notes, but the melody is easy to remember, so definitely give it a try to level up your singing!

Zero-based startcloudy tea

Zero Transmission / Kasane Teto, Nigotya
Zero-origin turbid tea

Zero Transmission, released in February 2024 by Nigocha, captivates the ear with its avant-garde sound.

It’s an ambitious work that portrays the subtleties of emotions and the complexities of human relationships born from digital communication.

The blend of electronic tones and acoustic timbres seems to mirror the contrast with the loneliness of modern society.

If you sing it with your heart while reflecting on the world we live in, you’ll surely come to love this song even more!

VampireDECO*27

DECO*27 – Vampire feat. Hatsune Miku
Vampire DECO*27

DECO*27’s “Vampire” is striking for its sudden one-octave leap in the melody.

It was released on March 9, 2021, in honor of Hatsune Miku, who performs the song.

It’s a poppy, danceable number that sings about the wavering feelings of a vampire girl.

The melody makes strong use of the high register at the beginning and end of the chorus.

It’s been covered by many popular singers like Mafumafu and Amatsuki, so why not give it a try at karaoke?
