Challenge your limits! A collection of Vocaloid songs with high keys and soaring high melodies

Many people probably have the impression that “Vocaloid songs have high keys.” In fact, the pitch range you can manipulate with synthetic vocal software is quite wide.

If you own one, you know—you’ve probably tried making it sing at absurdly high pitches, right? In this article, I’ve put together a list of Vocaloid songs with high keys! I think it’s a playlist that can help you choose songs for karaoke or cover videos.

Strictly speaking, in music theory there’s a difference between “a melody that includes high notes” and “a song with a high key,” but I’ve kept things loose here to be more accessible.

By all means, challenge the limits of your own vocal cords!

PamelaBalloon

A Vocaloid producer also known under the singer-songwriter name Keina Suda, Balloon’s track is a high-velocity number that reaffirms their enduring popularity, having taken first place in the BokaColle 2021 Autumn TOP 100 ranking.

With consistently high pitches, rapid-fire delivery, and a complex melody, it’s the perfect song for pushing your limits at karaoke.

Normally you might want to lower the key, but singing it in the original key lets you fully experience its difficulty.

It’s a work that symbolizes the momentum of Vocaloid’s popularity.

“Hourglass” is so addictive it feels like it could brainwash you.

It’s a track by the hugely popular Vocaloid producer Kirai Hiiragi, known for releasing many songs such as “Loveka?” and “Bocca della Verità.” It was released in October 2022, and even though only about a month has passed since then, it has already surpassed 290,000 plays.

The highest note that appears in this song is hi G, G5.

For women, it’s about the height you can just manage to sing using falsetto! If you’re used to singing artists like YOASOBI, you should be able to handle it.

Definitely give it a try!

A striking example of how key changes can transform a song’s atmosphere is Teniwoha’s “Hakka.” It was included on their fourth album, “NO BOY,” released in 2021 after a five-year hiatus.

The music video for “Hakka” was uploaded to YouTube ahead of the album.

When the chorus hits, the song modulates to a different key than before, and the latter half of the chorus features a higher melodic line.

After the instrumental break, the final, climactic chorus shifts to an even higher melodic line, ramping up the excitement.

Eternityhighball

An addictive track like a fizzy soda, blending poppiness with freshness.

Hainomi, a Vocaloid producer known for stylish tunes, released it on March 22, 2022 as their fifth song.

With an arrangement that mixes city pop and EDM, it presents a unique sonic world.

If you enjoy futuristic electronic music like Perfume, this will definitely hit the spot! The highest note in this song is hi F#, F#5.

Since it falls into a range that can feel challenging even for female singers, we recommend using falsetto and mixed voice as much as possible.

For those who like rock-style songs, “Odoru Kyoryu-san” (Dancing Dinosaur) is a perfect fit.

It’s a track by the Vocaloid producer Hifumi, who has been active since 2015.

The lyrics liken unwanted pasts and sealed memories to dinosaur fossils, depicting a wish for them to transform into happy memories.

With its positive message and driving sound, it seems ideal for warming up the atmosphere.

How about practicing it, especially focusing on the high-key chorus?

Candy or dreamdoriko

Known for signature songs like “Romeo and Cinderella,” doriko is a Vocaloid producer who supported the early Vocaloid scene.

“Candy or Dream,” included on his 2012 album “Hanataba” (Bouquet), is a rock ballad with a grand, sweeping atmosphere.

It features a band sound adorned with brilliant strings.

Hatsune Miku delivers the heartrending lyrics beautifully—sure to make your heart skip a beat.

It’s especially recommended for those who enjoy singing high-key ballads.

Since the tempo is slow, take your time, steady your breathing, and give it a try.
